What's new

Lata Mangeshkar passed away.

RIP, she was the GOAT (in my biased opinion after NFAK but ignore it)

. . . . . .
While her voice lost its lustre by the 90s - there were few who could match her range. Some say Asha is better and Lata purposely tried to sabotage her sister’s career but regardless - these vocals.. and more importantly vocals untainted by the filth of autotune used both in India and Pakistan today will never be replaced.

Very very sad news.
RIP
An extraordinary, incomparable, golden voice, par excellence, with a rare command on notes and vocal expressions

She was indeed a legend and regined for over half a century but at the same time she made sure that no one competes or surpasses her, in 80s she played a prominent role in making sure that Nazia Hassan doesn't gets a foothold in Indian music and film industry.

She didn’t leave her sister so poor Nazia had no chance

she had good voice i will give that to her, but she hated Pakistan and Muslims so as far as i am concerned a big MEH !!!!
I have a problem with your post and I mean it with the deepest of respect and consideration for your right to have an opinion.
On a world stage, my most humble opinion is that talent should be separated from Personality and religious beliefs. We have had people like Prof. Abdul Salam, and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Great people in their own right and fields, but berrated for their beliefs and ideologies. Faiz himself as a person was not a good one. Mustufa Zaidi and Josh Maleehabadi were really good peots perhaps unparalleled but horrible personalities. Same goes for Noor Jehan. I dont know about Mehdi Hassan but my favourite Kishore Kumar was an eccengric of the highest order.
If we just concentrate on their art and their legacy it has been great and we have a lot of positives to take away. Do Faiz, Josh, Mustufa Zaidi, Jon Ailiya, Kaifi Aazmi, or Faraz not excite us and send us down memory lanes into the peaceful times of our past? Let us take from them what their best atributes were and forget the negativity.
Lata had a reign lasting 60 years and like all Divas ruled with an iron hand. Regarding her voice it was small in pitch but with a great range. It was incredibly versatile and she could sing a sad song as beautifully as she did a love song. She changed from the semi-classical format of the late 30 and early 40s to the modern music of the 70s and 80s and never lost her charm and beauty.
She has recorded thousands of songs and hundreds of hits. I think along the way she has established a whole era which has her imprint on it. I cannot foresee anyone lasting as long as she did nor have the variety which was in her voice. She may have moved on but will continue to please millions of her admirers for decades to come.
She will be sorely missed.

This is the way of all singers. She also destroyed Suman Kalyanpuri, amongst many others, Noor Jehan had her fangs out for Naheed Akhtar, KL saigol had Master Madan poisoned. The list goes on.
