Lasting lesson of 1962: don’t be caught off-guard again

indians say:

Lasting lesson of 1962: don’t be caught off-guard again

Translation:

india is getting ready to fake peace with China again and then backstab with another forward policy to try to catch China off-guard (hopefully successful this time)

WRONG,

it just means that empty talks about peace is of no use.
You must be always prepared to defend your borders. Then only you can expect peace & talk of it.

If you still dont get it, Just read my sign

The Iran crisis would again keep the world busy, the border talks and false hope of peace are again being extended by china to India, We have yet to strengthen our defenses which will take a while, Russia has been pacified by the chinese. There could be a limited objectivity attack on India when we are least expecting it.

I am being extra careful here, but the strategists would have all contingency plans lined up to safeguard India. I highly doubt even if they attack that it will be a two front attack. PK is in no position to mount an attack on us.

politically China is no longer that old China,India is still that old India.

Agreed, the nonsense of Nehru being the "father of the nation", "greates PM in history" is utter nonsens he was a man who had many flaws and styled in power far longer than he should have. Unfortunately we still have to deal with his nepotistic offspring today which has far from helped Indian democracy/people.

Let's not keep getting sucked into these arguments, today ISN'T 1962, almost every imaginable variable has changed since then, the only lessons we can learn is war should be the last possible option and there are very rarely any winners in one.

No doubt about it...but do you know any PM who does not have a flaw??? Our educational system is also his legacy...

put 300,000 reserve troops in the NE and another 300,000 in East Kashmir and quicken the construction of infrastructure especially all weather roads and rail ways and we can sleep peacefully at night i think it was RFK who said this "if you want peace, prepare for war'

that bastard Nehru was a idiot his follies caused 50 years of hegemony and for what Aksai Chin? who cares about some rugged unpopulated area its not like there is something there to fight for like natural resources, gold etc 3 years before the war Zhou Enlai sent a letter to Nehru that was a compromise Tibet and AC gets recognized apart of China in return for AP (then called NEFA) and Sikkim to be recognized as apart of India. had we agreed to that compromise all the BS that happened and the inter-speculation by western countries to keep Asia at bay from the west would not have happened.

its these UPA bastards in general they do it for the votes they try to act tough with a stupid foreign policy this is why we must put someone from the BJP in power preferably Narendra Modi to fix things in the region.

Isn't Modi going to bring India closer to China ? China Actually wants Modi to come in power.

Yeah they would want him in power, the man can take decisions. Peace with China has to be an ongoing process and tough decisions need to taken. So having someone like Modi will be helpful to both our countries.

exactly my point, Modi will repair relations with China the UPA and their hegemonic policy will keep on going in circles resulting in mistrust and suspicion as the last 50 years have shown. the BJP was in power for 5 years and they managed to break the ice between the 2 countries. Modi coming to power will be better for India and China

I thought Modi is an unabashed hindu fundamentalist just like GW Bush is a neoconservative.

Narendra Modi is a smart talented man who's policy of urbanization, modernization, and eradication of poverty has turned Gujarat into India's most prosperous state economically..... the Gujarat economy was like a donkey 10 years ago today it is a racehorse with growth rates exceeding 11% last quarter of the fiscal year.. China also likes they even invited him to discuss economic affairs. but most of all China likes him because he will end the 50 year disaster set forth by Nehru that has plagued Sino-Indian relations.

If this is true seems that Modi could expel the lama and the Tibetan refugees in India.

most likely not Modi will fix the issue over territory but the Dai Lai Lama and Tibetan refugees are more than welcome to stay in India the BJP does not prop the Tibetans nor is it against the Tibetans, the Tibetan wildcard will be a strategic asset for us in the future so for now and maybe in the future we have a thorn in China's side.

what can they do though? will india train them like the USA and send them into china to overthrow the government again? what do you think china's reaction will be for india?

i really don't see how hosting this failed separatist group is really any asset at all. in fact, its more of a liability since you have to take care of them.

The Tibetans resorting to violence would destroy their whole cause the Dalai Lama knows this.

to be honest with you i don't care about the Tibetans it was Nehru who brought them into India just to piss off Mao, however on the international stage we would be castigated for kicking out the Tibetans where else would they go? they have no place to go except back to the land that they fled for their safety.

and if we ever do decide to train them i agree it would be a waste most Tibetans follow ideals of non violence which would not make them good fighters. the Tibetan refugees are the poisonous fruits from the tree of Nehru and we still have to keep them with us to this day. unless China would work out an agreement with the Lama to return to Tibet.
