Las Vegas Shooter Stephen Paddock Had Recent Large Gambling Transactions

The suspected gunman behind the Las Vegas massacre made several large gambling transactions in recent weeks, according to multiple senior law enforcement officials and a casino executive.

On several occasions, Stephen Paddock gambled more than $10,000 per day — and in some cases more than than $20,000 and $30,000 a day — at Las Vegas casinos, according to an NBC News source who read the suspect's Multiple Currency Transaction Reports (CTR) and a casino gaming executive.

According to a U.S. statute, a CTR is a Treasury- and IRS-mandated report that casinos have to file when "each transaction in currency involving cash-in and cash-out of more than $10,000 in a gaming day."

It was not immediately clear whether those transactions were losses or wins.

Paddock's brothers were stunned to learn Monday that their sibling was the suspect in the largest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Eric Paddock of Orlando, Florida, said he had "no idea" why his 64-year-old brother committed the shooting.

"Mars just fell into the Earth," he said. "We're completely dumbfounded."

Eric Paddock said his brother was retired and was "just a guy" who stayed at hotels, gambled and went to shows.

Their brother Bruce Paddock, who lives in California, said his family grew up in Sun Valley, California. Their father, Benjamin Paddock, was on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list in the 1970s for robbing banks and was described as psychopathic in an arrest warrant.

According to the warrant, the suspect's father carried a firearm and was considered "armed and dangerous." It listed his nicknames as "Big Daddy," "Chromedome" and "Old Baldy."

In 1960, The Arizona Republic described Benjamin Paddock as a three-time bank robber who was accused of stealing about $25,000. He was arrested in Las Vegas and "indicted on three counts of robbing Phoenix branches of the Valley National Bank," an archived article said.

The elder Paddock was sentenced to prison in Texas for the robberies.

But six months after his sentencing, he escaped and robbed a bank in San Francisco before being recaptured in Oregon, The Eugene Register-Guard reported in 1978. He had lived in Oregon for several years, evading capture by changing his name and appearance until his arrest, according to the paper.

Bruce, who said he hadn't talked to Stephen in about 10 years, said his brother made money through apartment buildings, which he owned and managed with his mother, who lives in Florida.

"I don't know how he could stoop to this low point, hurting someone else," Bruce said.

He added that his brother, who lived in Mesquite, Nevada, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, was a laid-back, "never-in-a-hurry" type of guy. Bruce said his brother was a law-abiding citizen who never did anything violent prior to the shooting.

Martin J. Kravitz was the lead attorney for Cosmopolitan Hotels when Paddock sued the facility over a slip and fall in 2012.

"He was really kind of bizarre. He dressed slovenly to the deposition," Kravitz said. "He is the kind of personality that's slovenly and careless."

Kravitz said that Paddock did not seem angry and was not the kind of person who would have stood out.

At least 59 people were killed when Paddock opened fire into a crowd of approximately 22,000 at an outdoor country music festival from the 32nd floor of Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Sunday night, police said. Police said at least 527 other people were wounded.

The shooting is not believed to be connected to international terrorism, authorities said.

The suspect was a licensed pilot who owned two planes. He also had at times obtained fishing licenses from Alaska.

It is believed he lived in a retirement community in Mesquite.

Public records show that Stephen Paddock lived a relatively transient life, having 27 different residences in California, Texas and Nevada.

From 1985 to 1988, he worked for a predecessor company of Lockheed Martin as an "internal auditor," public records show.

"We're cooperating with authorities to answer questions they may have about Mr. Paddock and his time with the company," Lockheed Martin said in a statement.

So just like Europe you are going to have your high gun ownership states (like Switzerland) with low crime and others with high ownership rates (like Serbia) which aren't doing so good.

Serbia is a country with second highest gun ownership in the world after US. But when we compare crime rate in Serbia in many different categories, with crime rate in EU countries, we can see that crime rate in Serbia is in most cases lover than crime rate in EU. For example murder rate in Serbia per 100 000 people is 1.2 - 1.5 in recent years, which is equal or better than many other Europe countries, and only 20-30% of murders in Serbia are committed with firearms. Or if we look in rape statistics per country, than again we can see that Serbia is among the Europe safest countries, or take a look at any other crime rate statistics (assaults, car thefts, kidnappings....) and you will see that Serbia is among the Europe and world safest countries.

But you agree that depending where you are in Europe the crime rate can be drastically different. That was my point. The US is basically 50 countries. We even pay different taxes. Some have lax gun laws while others have strict. Some have higher crime than others regardless of the gun laws. So if some guy shoots 50+ people 20 states and several thousand kilometers away why should I need to be thinking about buying a gun? You may as well tell somebody in Finland they had better get some guns due to a shooting in France.

Where I am guns aren't much of a problem..except for some inner city where the disadvantaged blow each other away almost every day over something stupid. If we send more cops in to stop it they cry racism for locking up their sons and fathers. So we just let it go on.

In US culture Guns are part of life while in many parts of world you cannot have guns , however US it is completely legal and this image is from Las Vegas Tourist attraction

People just don't realize how much access every American has to weapons and advance weapon training it is part of their legal constitutional right

It is part of the Culture
It is part of life
It is part of constitution
It is part of mindset

However if someone goes insane that is a different issue, an insane person can just kill you with a eating fork or pen

Part of the problem in US is that the government has gone rouge , and it is controlled by 4-5% rich elite and eventually people will snap

I mean how long can someone deal with likes of Donald Trump in USA or neglect inside USA and love for country in middle of Middle east and 10 billion aid per year

Many people don't consider Donaldo Trump to be a legitimate Head of state

How Donald treated Puerto Rico and his comments ... just no words

I completely agree with this. I was disagreeing with "not doing so good" part in your previous post, murder rate with firearms in Serbia is extremely low.

Gun ownership for civilians should be force banned by UN in all member states...

RIP.

Firstly, RIP to the dead and speedy recovery to the injured. I was touring the Strip, including the Mandalay Bay, barely over a year ago with my wife and we greatly enjoyed our time there. Very sad to see this.

As far as I can see, this lunatic 'snapped'. Maybe midlife crisis. Maybe gambling losses. It kind of looks like the guy was on a gluttonous spree lately with perhaps his ugly last act on his mind?

BTW, guns ARE the big problem. I think private citizens should not have any weapons except for bare minimum hunting guns. Why even the semi automatic?

As I recall it is also cultural in Pakistan too. In fact you are allowed to have heavy weapons in the tribal areas which isnt allowed here. But just like the US you can only have certain weapons in certain areas of the country. What is perfectly legal in Las Vegas is illegal in my area.

It is not the guns. It is the people. The ‘Muricans are good, but can be equally bad. ‘Murica is a land of extremes.

These attacks will continue to happen. People in ‘Murica are extremely depressed for all kinds of reasons.

I see what you are saying but still there is a sort of 'baseline' across America where guns are almost worshiped. A quick personal observation: I live in an area where there are two universities within 5 miles of my house. I am barely out of city limits--a 'country home'. And yet every 2nd or 3rd house around seems to be target practicing with loud and repeated gunshots piercing the peace around. And I know some do it for pure 'fun'--targeting empty beer cans. This can't be 'normal' behavior!

Ban all guns except for some bare minimum ones required to hunt deer or wild boar. It WILL reduce such tragic incidents!

I think the latest figure is 36% of US households have a gun. That means 64% don't. I'm sure in some areas it is 99% while in others it is very very low. Many of that 36% have a rusting .22 in the back of a closet they got as a teen and don't know how to get rid of it...since you can't just throw it in the trash.

The highest is Wyoming at 60% and mine is 12%.

There is so much money involved at the end of the day that the ban will not happen. The NRA makes money hands over fist on firearms and ammunition sales.

I live in liberal new york but work with 60 percent conservative/republican work force. And they worship their guns. And this is new york not some redneck trailer park in the southern boonies. Their logic defies all reasons. Guns cannot be controlled or regulated in this country.

Oh btw, the conservatives are hoping against hope that this might be an isis related incident. That there might be a last minute revlation that he was a convert to Islam or traveled to syria etcetera. A donald trump tweet that the fake media is not reporting "true facts". But no help is coming. Freaking guy LOOKED mentally deranged in the very first photo they released.

I have worked in Boston at several software and financial firms and I have only run across one gun lover/nut in 30 years. Oddly he's now a good friend of mine. I'm sure he would happily give me a whole arsenal if I wanted it. Of course I'm not going to volunteer to go over to his acres of property to pick it up and end up in some kind of "the most dangerous game" scenario..lol!
