Languages of ME and Africa

LOL, good luck with that. Africa is one of the most linguistically diverse continents in the world.

There are quite literally 1000s of language and dialects.

Africa is the most diverse place genetically and linguistically in the world. Horners (people from Horn of Africa) for instance have completely different facial features than Nigerians or for instance Congolese.

I used to think that every Sub-Saharan African was alike in appearance but after having encountered Horners in KSA, the GCC and the West, I was easily proven wrong.

The facial features of many Horners are in fact Middle Eastern/Caucasian in appearance.

An Amharic speaking Habesha girl:

Likewise Semitic speakers below:

Some Nigerian women:

I look at the Semitic-speaking peoples of Eritrea and Ethiopia as a mixture of Middle Eastern people (mainly Arabs and other Semites) and ingenious Cushitic speakers.

DNA confirms this:

Of course delusional pan-Africans will deny this fact but this is similar to how African-Americans deny that many of them descend from a non-African (European) lineage due to certain activities in the bedroom pre-slavery and sometimes post-slavery.

For instance I have seen (on the internet that is) pan-Africans and Sub-Saharan Africans in general call Horners (in particular the Semitic speakers) for non-Africans and Arab offspring, lol.

Anyway Africa is for sure a fascinating place but hopefully they can solve many of the current problems. The increasing foreign investment will come a long way eventually.

Ethiopians and Eritreans speak the same language, but Somali is different.

@wedi ?
I know it's kinda hard to believe but I have seen them argue multiple times in DC. Somalians have arabic names and ethiopians have unique names compared to other african names.

Many people think that Russia is bigger in area than Africa due to 2d flat maps.
In fact, Africa is twice as large. Most of the languages are primitive and didn't develop into modern communications and I really can't pronounce it

True, most are also just tribal languages so not much is known about them.

And to show the diversity, you have posted the pictures and videos of the same girl? :D

Only some Ethiopians/Eritreans speak the same language, Tigrinya, and they belong to a specific ethnic group. That ethnic group is the majority in Eritrea but not the majority in Ethiopia. Most Ethiopians speak Amharic and Oromo and you may get some of the older generation of Eritreans speak Amharic, but not really the younger ones, due to history.
They are similar languages though.

Most likely through Amharic then, but probably not Somali's. DC is mainly Ethiopian/Eritrean.
Yes that's true most of my co workers were Ethiopian while there was 1 somali who was from Maryland.

Even Ethiopians, if Muslim will most likely have Arabic names, although sometimes surnames can be traditional ones. Otherwise our names either mean something in our language or are Biblical names. And those prefix's you see most our runners have, Welde/Gebre mean son of/servant of, respectively.

None of the 8 women (not including the photo from Nigeria) that I have posted are the same woman unless I have become blind?:D

Anyway here are more photos:

They look nothing like 99% of all other Sub-Saharan Africans. If not for the darker skin color, they could pass as Arab women.

Those are Habesha women (Semitic-speaking people of Eritrea and Ethiopia). The same people (Abyssinian) that did this:

Many of the Afro-Arabs in the Arab world are Habesha people, Swahili speakers originally or from the Sahel.

What is the difference between Amharic and Tingriya? Do both languages not use the same scrip (Ge'ez)? Also how difficult is it for a non-Amharic/non-Tingriya speaker in Ethiopia to communicate with Habesha people? I imagine that a Somali person speaking Somali (Cushitic language) would not understand anything except for a few words here and there. Am I wrong?

For instance Arabic and Amharic, while both being Semitic languages, are not mutually intelligible.

Tingriya (I have heard) is more similar to Arabic than Amharic but both are very different. Arabic is a Central Semitic language while Amharic and Tingriya are South Semitic languages. Not sure about this but I do believe (I have nothing to base this on and I could be very wrong) that native South Arabian languages are closer.

yani you guys want me to use all four of my marriage slots?

Why not?

Well they are 2 different languages but they use the same script. We do have an additional letter though in the Tigrinya script and some letters, even though written the same as Amharic are not pronounced the same as Amharic has lost some sounds over history. They are also not mutually intelligible.
And it is very hard to communicate, but Amharic is used as the federal working language of the country and most urban areas have a good understanding of it. And nope, no similarity with Somali apart from a few words here and there.

Tigrinya is a bit closer to Arabic, mainly phonology but still very different. There are many many similar words however. And yes they are a bit closer but still very different to the South Arabian ones.
