Lahore factory to produce Pakistan’s first locally manufactured cars

you are wrong here sir its not understanding of need its cash back . we Pakistanis have wired habbits and japs cash it . we are stupid that we make resale value of mehran honda70 etc a choice every Pakistani buy these junks because they think its easy to resale with good cash . what a stupidity

I have never understood this concept. How can a used commodity go up in price? It is strange.

Having said that, our governments are guilty. They have allowed one brand to monopolize. Not that our consumers are any better, but what choice did they have? When there are no alternatives the consumer has little to no choice. It is a tragedy that needs to be reversed quickly.

Allow other brands to introduce better and newer models. Cars that suit the needs of the consumer. Suzuki will always have an incredible advantage over other car manufacturers in the current circumstances, but we have to start somewhere. This is the time to diversify.

Also, I seriously hope the government introduces road tax. People who can afford cars worth tens of lacs of rupees can also pay road tax.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the JW Forland factory in Lahore will produce the first vehicles completely manufactured in Pakistan.

During a visit to the factory site on Saturday, the premier said the factory currently employs 8,000 workers but will indirectly create jobs for 40,000 people. “So this factory, built on 2,500 kanals of land will provide 40,000 people jobs,” he said.

The prime minister thanked brothers Faisal and Javed Afridi for setting up the factory and said it would generate more investment in Pakistan. More investment in Pakistan will create wealth and increase tax revenue, therefore creating jobs, he said. This cycle will then result in people having more money to spend and therefore more investment, he added.

He said the vehicles will be completely manufactured here, with each part being made in Pakistan. This is the first time a full car will be made in Pakistan, said PM Khan, adding that before this, there were just assembly plants in the country.

He said he was waiting for a time when electric cars are brought to Pakistan to resolve the pollution issue.
During his visit to Lahore’s industrial zone, he said the factory was giving around Rs21 billion in taxes but after its expansion, it will be giving Rs30 billion to the government every year. These vehicles can also be exported and we can get foreign exchange, he said.

With our new policy, we’re trying to remove barriers to investment, said PM Khan, adding that through this, the people and government will both benefit.

He said the government is trying to make it easier for investors to invest in Pakistan and improve the ease of doing business.

A factory having 8000 workers? Either that guy is exaggerating like most politicians or it must be a really shitty factory with less automation or it should be one of the top factories in the world with great outputs.

Most automobile factories have a great deal of automation nowadays and normally cant employ more than 3000-4000 workers even for large output ones..

Even the most manual labor intensive factory won't have 8000 workers. Maybe he means that will be total employment generated.

For the same price .. u can get peugeot..citroen..fiat....
But they are not allowed in pakistan...
I get what you are saying but there are more factors involved that makes the equation become much costlier in Pakistan.

They are not allowed/restricted to be sold here to protect and promote local manufacturer, Co-industries and jobs.

So Peugeot, fiat etc...
Ex factory abroad? Yes, the price is similar.
Ex factory Pakistan? No, the price will rise.

Even if imported, then after local taxes, distribution/services/support infrastructure cost additions etc, their price is bound to go up.

The credit might goes to Nawaz Sharif who reformed Automative policy to break the stronghold of Japanese influences.

Nevertheless, brilliant move.

.
Positive sign that we will be building engine, transmission and other parts in Pakistan. It will boost to a local auto parts industry.
Same kind of development should be done in other cities.

He is really helping the country from jail.

Reformative on automotive started way back when Nawaz Sharif was in power - for the short period did major reformative on the economical policy which to this day Imran Khan is able to benefit from it while at the same time undoing the hard work.

I guess these are light and medium commercial vehicles, not cars. Anyhow, local manufacturing or even an assembling facility would bring more job opportunities, competitive priced products to the market. This will have impact on other manufacturers and they might follow similar routes to bring better and value for money products. Of course, without the government interventions this would become a tough nut for the investors.
