Lab Grown Meat

I am ambivalent. I wouldn't give a shyte either way as long as it tastes fine and has 'proven' its harmlessness and absence of any undesirable side effects.
But it does have a yuck factor.

There could be worse alternatives

Eating meat is not about such issues. It is about filling one's stomach. Whether when humans were hunting animals or when they started to "raise" them for slaughter because it was a more efficient and economical way to do so. "Lab" grown meat (what a funny name), is going to be another method. With further technological advancement, this "artificial meat" will eventually take over all supply chains since it would be much more efficient and economical.

Yes, there will still be "natural meat" available in next century. As hunting meat is still available in this century.

Asking people in general population about this, is exactly like asking people in the year 1815, about whether they will drive a car instead of riding their horse or fly rather than take an intercontinental ocean voyage. It is nonintellectual. It is non-instructive. It is non-constructive. :lol:

I really don't like the idea of lab grown anything, even veggies (gmo is for labrats, I'll take organic anyday)

but sure, I'll give it a go, why not... but even if I like it, am I going to buy it and be a regular consumer of lab meat ? HELL NO :astagh:

You missed the point, which is that there are two questions in this discussion. The first question is about establishing a consensus about eating meat in general.

Your analogy is wrong. The automobile did not exist back in the 1800s. However, if you ask people TODAY on whether they would drive or teleport, most would answer 'teleport' even though they have no ideas on the mechanisms of such a device. If you present the CONCEPT of the automobile to a 19th century person, he/she would definitely take you up on it.

If you have no interests in giving your answer, then please keep quiet and observe. This is not about passing judgement on anyone base upon his/her preference. You will be challenged at the end, whether you chose to give your preference or not.

Lets then use 1915 as the date of experiment. Being from a country that had a big hand in creation of automobile, you seem to be oblivious to resistance in adaptation of automobile in early days. Such resistance is normal. Happens with adaptation of every technology. Even teleportation. :lol:

If asked to choose, i would pick lab grown meat in a heart beat. Its a much better option than killing.

I am a big meat lover as well as a big animal lover. So I will be happy to eat lab meat and not feel sad for the animals. I hope the taste can be copied too.

I do not expect people to give reasons for either way, but I do encourage people to expand their answers, if only for intellectual curiosity.

For me: I have no problems eating lab grown beef simply because I do not care how it came to be, assuming all safety issues are resolved. If there is a taste difference, then if there is a choice, I would prefer normally raised cattle beef. But if nutrition and safety issues are resolved, and they are, then I have no objections, morally and legally, to creating, marketing, and finally consuming lab grown beef.

My issue would be how far long along such meat has been in testing and whether or not there may be some unforeseen consequences that may not have been discovered just yet. Being artificially created in a lab is not much of a concern especially for those of us over here as much of the food we eat is already modified in some way in a lab from potatoes to apples down to the high fructose corn syrup that is found in almost all our products. However long term ramifications that would take years to understand give me greatest pause. My latter concerns would then be taste and perhaps how one would go about bringing such meat to halal or kosher standards for Muslims and Jews which I think would cause some stir in these two communities.

Hackers gona hack the tech. all food bussiness and associated industry will collapse, to be honest sounds like economic nightmare.

I have sincere questions for following:
1) How our Muslim friends will determine whether it is Halaal?
2) How vegetarian will treat it ? Will they even eat it?
