OPVs corvettes light frigates

We build OPVs already and right now were building them for export too. We are in the process of building the type 056 corvette at Khulna Dockyards with Chinese TOT and looks like buying 2 frigates from Korea.

But Bangladesh just manufactures the structure, while the engines and sensors, subsystems are imported and assembled from abroad. While India is self sufficient on most of the parameters.

Yeah, Bangladesh is not likely to buy anything smaller then corvettes. Right now were only looking to buy 2 frigates for $570m -$600m, which looks like will come from Korea.

Which are those OPVs
where does the design come from

Kamorta is a good example

The designs and build are from Western Marine, a private yard in Bangladesh. Western Marine Shipyard Ltd.

These are really small-I was talking about something similar to INS Sumitra, which can be upgraded to light frigate standard if needed.

Thats what the Kenyan government wanted, so WMSY are designing and building according to order. If a client needs larger OPV, WMSY or Ananda have the capacity to build upto 5000t.

The Bangladesh Navy have their own yard, KSY in Khulna that is currently building the Durjoy class LPCs and will build the Type 056 corvettes.

08-India-exports-its-first-warship-this-month-P.jpg

Bangladesh may order patrol vessels for its coast guards from Kolkata’s Garden Reach Shipyard after Mauritius inducted one of their Baracuda class vessel into its coast guards. The vessel was formally inducted during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Mauritius.

Bangladesh Coast Guards Director General Rear Admiral Mohammed Maqbool Hossain visited the Garden Reach Shipyard last month and made detailed enquiries about its production profile.

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Rear Admiral (retd) AK Verma informed Hossain about the growing number of enquiries GRSE is getting after the Baracuda patrol craft was inducted into Mauritius coast guards.

“We gave details of our production profile to the Bangladesh coast guard chief, how several advance ships and submarines for the Indian Navy were being built at GRSE,” Verma told journalists. “He showed positive interest and we expect some orders from Bangladesh.”

The GRSE is building Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes for the Indian Navy and also three stealth frigates under Project 17A.

The shipyard is among the five in the country shortlisted to build six conventional submarines under Project 75 (India).

The Kolkata shipyard is also likely to build four patrol vessels for Vietnam as part of a $100 million credit line extended by India.

The GRSE is a public sector undertaking under India’s ministry of defence production.

It is now competing with six companies to bag an order for two light frigates for the Philippines.

The GRSE is ruing why the Indian government did not extend a line of credit for vessels for Myanmar, which wanted to place orders with GRSE — the orders later went to China.

Under Modi’s new policy of developing closer ties with neighbours and improve India’s defence industry capacity , that may change and India may well extend line of credit for purchase of GRSE made vessels.

We should eat that much, we can digest.

Why not? Your coast guard DG visited GRSE and enquired about its production profile for a reason. They must have something in mind.

So what? The indian navy visited Western Marine in Bangladesh and asked similar questions, dont mean jack. Look the coast guard is not going to place any orders from indian yards for the simple reason they can get the same from Bangladeshi yards for a lot less.

GRSE charged Mauritus roughly $50m for a 1300t OPV, for that price the Bangladeshi Coast Guard can get a lot more from Western Marine, KSY or Ananda as build costs are roughly a third in Bangladeshi yards. Even if you factor in TOT, licence etc it would still be much cheaper to build OPVs and similar sized vessels in Bangladesh.

Radar, missiles and engine is foreign.

Missiles are indigenous. Brahmos, LRSAM, ASW rockets, guns, torpedos all are made in India. Sophisticated sonars and integrated EW systems are also Indian.

Only the radar and engine are foreign. Rest like integrated ship data network, automated power management, platform management system, net centric warfare, satellite communication, ultra high strength steel etc all are design and developed in India. It has high % of automation in everything. All are designed in India. This is result of long history in building warships.

But the cost is $1.1 billion per ship!!! :D We are getting 7 of them.

Because Bangladesh don't actually buy Indian weapon systems period.

Then why are they buying now? What's wrong with your government..? They should buy some better equipments. .

Then who are asking you to come to us and buy weapons? There are other and much better options.

Thats the whole point of this, WE ARE NOT ASKING AND HAVE NEVER ASKED to buy. Its your indian journalist who wrote a stupid article that implied just because the DG of the coast guard visited we wanted to buy...and the stupid clueless journo said we dont have the ship yards...:hitwall:

Both Brahmos and LRSAM are JVs

We have been building our own radars & engines (license produced) for our corvettes.Capability exists for an active phased array radar,as land based ones for the army are already under trials
