I was thinking about the Japanese LHDs but I thought that since KSA has many JVs with South Korea that will be the most likely choice.. I like the Japanese LHDs, it will be nice for KSA to have them with ToT obviously..
Rumours go for French submarines, but German Subs(Type-216 not produced yet) is quite a possibility if the US signs a deal for its frame design and engines supply and mount it in the US with US equipments then sells it to KSA..

It would be quite a stretch to fit 32 Mk-41 cells inside an LCS size ship. It really wasn't designed to carry that many. What's your source?

I think it's much more likely the ship has 16 cells, which would be quad packed with ESSM to give a total of 64 missiles.

The original Freedom Class doesn't even have VLS, I hardly think they are going to jump to 32 VLS from zero. This is an upgunned version of the LSC, not a completely different ship.

There are 3 different variants of the standard LCS: if we take the biggest and still modify it, it is possible to tailor fit anything KSA wants on it.. I do believe that 16 VLS is good enough, but 32 is still much better defensive power..

That is a 2015 deal that was shelved due to high price, delivery scheduler too long and no Aegis or SM missile family on the LCS.. again old news.. AEGIS and SM-6 came to the market very recently, due to Saudi insistence of getting them, I won't be surprised that they are included in the new deal..and once again, the Saudis are not getting the standard US LCS, they want their own version with what they require and the US will tailor make it for them based on the Freedom ships design..

Well there is a concept, let's see if Saudi actually gets it. Note, this ship and a ship upgunned to have 16 VLS are two completely different ships. Sure, they're both under the LSC program but they aren't comparable.
