The difference here is that Guam and Puerto Rico are internationally recognized as US territory, and Hawaii is a freaking state. The Spratly Islands, Paracel Islands and Scarborough Shoal are recognized as Chinese territory by no one but China.

It is not short of a miracle that China was able to reach its current military and economic strength in spite of US obstructions and containment.
China is not so stupid to give the US any pretext to gather support from their lackeys to gang up on China.
China is doing all the right things to reach up to this stage to be able to threaten the US and to make the US so frightened.
The US castrated Japan at a far lower level of threat to the US economic hegemony.
This is a critical moment where China have to gather all its economic strength to cast aside the US stranglehold on the world economy.
As for military strength, China is advancing by leaps and bounds but may need a few years more.

Why don't you go and check how the Chinese were in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaya long before the Spanish colonialists, Portuguese, and the British respectively.
Why not the other way around with the Pinoys and the Malays in China if they were such great seafarers like what they claimed ?
ASEAN were very lucky ancient China came to live in peace with them and only claimed uninhabited islands on the way to these lands instead of enslaving them and annexed their lands.
