Keel laying ceremony of OPV-I for Pakistan Navy held in Romania

What you are talking about is the one being built in Karachi Ship Yard with help from Turkey. it is 1700 tons displacement. These 2 being built in Romania are new projects I think. the main question here that needs and answer is that why PN is getting so many OPVs like this much OPV is needed for some very large navy. So there is something strange cooking in PN?

here is the image of the one at Karachi yard

These are very big ships here is the design image.

The deal is for just 2 Damen OPVs - 1 built by Damen (in Romania) and 1 at KSEW.

.
Which one are we getting?

OPV 1900.

@Gryphon @Oscar ... The PN's OPV is called 'OPV 1900' ... and the hull aesthetics seem to be closer to the SIGMA than the OPV-series (though it probably is still built like the OPV - e.g. all-steel, no composites, etc).

Compare the OPV 1900 with the OPV 1800

Its the same design, except around the helicopter deck and hangar where (I think) the ship has been elongated. Maybe, there will be accommodation for a UAV as well (in addition to the Sea King).

I don't see more similarities with the Sigma designs.

It’s actually elongated mid-hull, bridge area’s bigger.

Small steps

  • Dehshat class missile boats
  • Now Damen OPV

Nice to see some modest improvement in Small Size to Corvette size ships in Navy much much needed

Size isn't the issue. These OPVs can displace 3,000 tons, but they're low-cost and (in terms conventional warfare) low capability by design. Each of these OPV 1900s probably cost around $60-70 m (tops). However, a war-centric fast attack craft can cost $125 m - i.e. boast composites for very low-RCS, four high-powered engines for 55+ knot speed, eight AShM and sensors to put our F-22P to shame.

Well it is low cost as they don't have weapons on them , but Pakistan can add light weapons by local means to have some meaningful defence and use the ships as a OPV / Corvette

We will only be able to see the benefits once the ships are in Navy and working day to day along side F22P ships and our Dehshat Class missile boats

The ship is mostly used for coast guard duties by some countries it all depends on our own engineering in future

But still a good buy as we could enhance some capabilities locally in Pakistan Ship Yard
For now a nice close range ship

Hopefully with arrival will give F22P ships and other ships in our Navy rest for repairs and improvements

Level 1 : ??????????????????????
Level 2 : F22P / UK frigates / OHP
Level 3 : OPV platform / Coastal Protection Force [Possible Corvette Role ]
Level 4 : Dehshat Missile Boats

Now its real deal and diversification . Netherlands they are master in ship building ...

These 2 ships will be a great addition to our navy never mind people that cant seem to understand that concept period !!

Why we are acquiring too many small vessels instead we need frigates and destroyers.

May be PN wants good fleet of low cost / maintenance for peace time security of Pakistani coast as it will need more protection due to CPEC traffic.

Also it will release main PN ships from anti piracy duty in International waters.

What I don't understand is, why ships of many types and vendors?? It will be maintenance and logistics nightmare.
