Kashmir civilian deaths: Locals say ‘indiscriminate’ firing by forces led to high casualties

Isn't that true world over? Police do not take fatal action unless needed because they are civilians. Its true world over. What I am not still able to understand is how come law enforcement has become so crippled that they are not even able to enforce law. I know the Kashmir conflict but its between India and Pakistan. What I find rather weird to understand is how come civilians are being attacked by their own army and no one is raising a single brow.

Because you have not lived in India and you do not know how things work in this part of the world. You are probably thinking from the US or Canadian point of view.

Indian Army is there to fight the terrorists. The stone pelters come out protect the terrorists from getting killed by the Army. So Army needs to clear the stone pelters to ensure that they could reach the terrorists in time lest they would escape.

.
It takes hundreds of thousands of Indian troops from all over India to occupy Kashmir and even then they have to resort to killing unarmed civilians.

Not all over India. Mostly from select states like Punjab, Jammu, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and few from Maharashtra. Rest of India is fattu.

Okay it is something that happened in Pakistan but how is it relevant to what is happening in India. Or are you implying if a shootout happens in Pakistan then Army should attack civilians in India. Sorry you lost me there.
not civilains, stone pelters. It happened during ongoing operation. Normally, army reach first on the encounter site where terrorist are hiding, police arrives later. These stone pelters are limited to one or two districts and try to impede an ongoing operation. Recently, their activities increased due to govt. leniency.

Usually, in this part of the world, very well equipped gangs are dealt with by police and SWAT. And also, the world over it is true as well.

Now, if your army is fighting the enemy and that too near civilian centres and for a decade and your civilians are supporting the enemy, then that is a cause of concern, to begin with. The least you can do is to evacuate the civilians away from war-zones. No civilians around to get hurt in the battle, the army can effectively fight.

A state, which shares borders with both of India's enemies, Pakistan and China, has as active armed insurgency, has been attacked by Pakistan on 4 occasions and once by China. Why wouldn't hundred of thousand of Indian troops be deployed in that state.

Pakistan to this date complains, they only lost East Pakistan, because they were outnumbered by Indian army, why would we repeat Pakistan's mistake and not deploy enough troops in that state ?

Okay, first thing first. A civilian is someone who is not serving in the army. Simple. A criminal is also a civilian. Usually, the vast majority of civilians are not trained in fighting battles.

From what I am gathering, somehow you have civilians living close to where the army is fighting making the entire area an urban war zone with civilians not evacuated. And somehow the civilians are not supporting their own army but the terrorists and enemies. I guess you should begin by moving civilians away from the area of operation of your army. You need to evacuate villages, cities and heck whole provinces if it comes to that.

If it was the US or NATO they would bombed Kashmir to stone age a long time ago like they did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Unfortunately, India is a soft state and keep dealing with the terrorists like locals street gangs.

You come to Nagpur i will give you kashmir

:enjoy:

There are but 200 active militants remaining the entire state, down from about 25000 back in 90s.

It is illogical/impractical to evacuate 10 million people over 200 militants.

But US or NATO will not bomb California or Texas or British Columbia, will they? Last time when something like that happened it was called civil-war.

If it is just 200 odd miscreants then why do you need the army to handle the situation? Why cann't a well-equipped police force of say 10,000 strong tackle it? If you are saying that provincial police force is light on them for whatever reason --I though find it hard to accept-- then call federal police force. If miscreants are well equipped and somehow well trained then call SWAT or specialized police force.

BTW, many gangs in US has been or had been more than thousand strong but I don't see Marines deploying to take out these gangs or locals pelting stone on their own forces police or the army.

O really?, u need half a million troops to control 200 militants? Yes Indian army sucks but its not humanely possible to suck this much. U lying snake, India is occupying kashmir n every inch of the valley hates u monkey ugly subhumans to death. Dont worry when the right time comes we will hold every last one of u saffron dhotis accountable.

You didn't get the point. Sometimes the forces will have to fire live rounds for riot control or even save themselves. After all they are also human beings. I just wanted to say, such unfortunate events has happened in every country. Its not just India.
