Karzai to visit India; Afghans look for enhanced defence ties

This is the same guy that said if pakistan and India go to war, he will support pakistan. We shouldn't even have ties with their country.

India should do everything it can to help ANSF. A stronger Afghanistan is in India's interest.

All the better for Pakistan. :)

But seriously, getting out of Afghanistan would be a mistake for India. They'd lose massive influence Pakistan and would lose the power to encircle it.

Good for India and Afghanistan...I give the ANA a year tops before they start falling apart after NATO withdrawal.

So. afgnastan is bad luck. From the time of the Mauryans everyone who step foot there has ended up collapsing.

That's not totally true, the Brits didn't collapse because of Afghanistan. Anyways, let's another matter, from a Pakistani perspective, India needs to get out of Afghanistan, and from an Indian perspective, it would be a mistake to leave.

Good opportunity for Indian private defense sectors.

The bulk of the ANA is a bunch of incompetent morons.

An ignorant statement, besides being offensive to friends.

Yes ANA has had difficulties but they have very creditably handled many terrorist attacks.

Amrullah Saleh (former head of Afghan intelligence) is one of the smartest and most capable professionals in the world.

in world politics no preminent enemies neither friends.

Valid points buddy, we would just be check mating Pak's influence in Afghanistan which will serve our strategic interest of encircling Pakistan from both sides and at the same time we will get access to the some of the largest iron ore mines.

any plan how will you encirle Pakistan?

Dhruv helicopters, TATA, Mahindra and Ashok Leyland trucks and jeeps, 2 x squads of our newest Jaguars...

...mainly things for ligistical and infrastructure support, not militarize them more, then they already are. The main problem however will be, what happens with Afghanistan when the NATO forces are gone? If it goes bad, fights for power can reach up to a civil war, which makes it too dangerous for Indian companies to operate there.

Why is everyone assuming that the NATO forces will be gone totally? U.S is planning on retaining troops upto 10,000(though the U.S central command has recommended 13,600 troops) post 2014 withdrawal. On top of it, Turkish defence minister has said that Turkish soldiers will be in Afghanistan even if NATO withdraws after a request from Karzai. Germany has mentioned that is going to retain troops in Afghanistan. Also NATO is going to provide $4 billion per year budget for Afghan security forces till 2024.

Drawing a parallel with the situation in 1990s, Najibulla's regime survived for another 2 years after USSR pulled out and collapsed only after aid from USSR stopped. In this case with an aid of $4 billion from NATO alone plus other support from other countries including several investments from China,India and other countries atmost there will be insurgency from Taliban.

Thats why I said the bulk, not ALL!

There are many good and well trained officers with a real sense of duty, but most soldiers and cops dont have it! If you start researching about it you will find plenty of examples.

Here a video about one of the first truly Afghan led operations, with one of the few good commanders.

What is the point of seeking military deals now? The Talibans is going to rule the country again, it's obvious. You see it's just like the Vietnam war, North Vietnam is the Talibans while South Vietnam is the other side allied with US and the NATO. Then North won and ruled communism, this will happen to Talibans in two or three years after the NATO goes back home next year. I was watching VICE "This Is What Winning Looks Like" on YT, oh boy, the Afghan military are corrupted, noway to control the country. :undecided:

The bulk of the ANA is a bunch of incompetent morons. The second the NATO leaves, those weapons will fall into the hand of the Taliban:
Completely agree with you, US made a big mistake arming the Afghans back in the Soviet-Afghan war. All those weapons ended up in the Talibans hand :omghaha:

Don't let the mass media manipulate your mind.... there is a "significant" improvement in the security over all Afghanistan since the security transition has taken place it only shows how soon and with no firepower in hand ANSF has achieved the biggest goal in a short time... there are now merely ambushes or failed IED attacks nothing more armed opposition has lost it's grounds and their fighter have lost moral to fight they can now only attack unarmed civilians, fire brigades, traffic police, schools, bridges etc.. two things have broken their backbone 1, unlike americans no mercy from ANSF 2, public uprisings against them... Afghans are cooperative with ANSF more than any other time and their trust on ANSF has boosted 1000% after a border skirmish with Pakistan!

@ topic: Karzai might take a list of military hardware which he may present to the authorities in India - let's hope it includes tanks, artillery and air defense equipments
