This commissioner systems suits to them who have personal interests over any thing. We saw Karachi booming under the guidance and supervision of Mustafa Kamal. Man, we need Nazim system desperately, at least that ensures the funds reaching to the grass root levels.

the news on the street is this "PATHANS are killing each other and creating unrest in the city by blaming MQM" they also kill some MQM karkuuns because they want MQM to hit back and then blame them but MQM is controlling its temper because Bhai said to keep peace!:coffee:

:shout: if i am lying ask anyone who lives in karachi to deny these claims!!!!!!!!!!
well, just a Question. Why don't your Begharat Altaf Bahi come back to Pakistan and face its people.MQM is a joke and Altaf Hussain is the leader.Tell me in what country you will see this a person who call himself a leader is sitting somewhere else on a couch and making speeches while its people are living miserable life.I don't support any political party, but one thing is for sure the PPP and ANP leadership got balls because they gave up their lives in Swat,Dir, Trible areas and are still there. If Altaf Hussain is really concerned about the people he should come back and live with them it will make him a true leader. For now he is just a thug. one more thing ask any MQM guy when they come back into GOVT because this is what they are famous for.

What will happen if he comes here. you expect things gonna change? No.

Benazir self exiled herself, Nawaz Sharif ran away to Saudia by signing an agreement. So what is wrong if he stays outside. The difference between other parties and MQM is that you need not be relative of existing leader to become a leader, neither there is one man show in MQM.

If they are able to control the party affairs sitting outside the country then what is the problem? he is not participating in elections. His decision of remaining outside is of Party workers not of himself, on the other hand BB and NS were living outside at their own.

It is the only party who allowed the footpath people to reach in parliaments.

This is why I hate the PPP, despite the progressive & secular positions they only appear to have, they are nothing but hypocrites. No spine.

I hate PPP for each & every thing, they are incompetent, they are corrupt, they are violence raisers, they can't defend the country from foriegn raids, they had destroyed the economy of the country etc etc days will pass but the reasons won't stop.

KARACHI: Violence continued for the fifth day in Karachi and the death toll from the current wave of killings rose to 102 on Saturday, DawnNews reported.

At least 13 people were killed in incidents of firing overnight.

Earlier on Friday, the Sindh government authorised the Rangers to exercise the powers of police officers to ‘use necessary force to prevent terrorist acts’ as steps promised and taken hitherto failed to stop killings in Karachi.

During Friday’s violence, the Qasba Colony and adjoining areas remained the worst affected, although the violence spread to the southern and eastern parts of the city and grenade and rocket attacks were also reported.

Scattered arson attacks left at least eight shops burnt in Aligarh Colony on Friday and a commercial centre in Kharadar met the same fate.

The violence forced residents of Qasba Colony and adjoining areas to flee to safe places.

A Sindh Rangers spokesman said personnel of the paramilitary force had helped evacuate hundreds of people trapped in strife-torn areas.

“We are moving the families to safe places and the exercise continues. Rangers troops helped mainly people in Qasba Colony and adjoining areas,” he said.

“More than 100 suspects, many of them with weapons, have been arrested,” home ministry spokesman Sharafuddin Memon said on Saturday, noting that paramilitary troops were in control and patrolling streets in the city’s troubled parts.

Many people who were stranded due to unrest for four days were now going out safely, Memon said.

KARACHI, July 8: The Pakistan People’s Party Sindh chapter has condemned the ongoing wave of violence in Karachi and appealed to all peace-loving people to join hands against the ‘band of terrorists’ that had been holding this city of 18 million souls hostage for long.

“All of us have a role to play in rooting out militancy and terrorism from the city,” Sindh PPP general-secretary Taj Haider said in a statement issued here on Friday.

There appeared no reason that could have triggered the fresh wave of violence, he observed, and said that the terrorists’ aim was clear to everyone. “Criminal elements in the garb of political activists are killing innocent citizens to destabilise democracy and sabotage patriotic citizens’ efforts to bring about a civilised political culture in the country,” he said.

“Gone are the days when dictators took over the entire state at gunpoint and militants enjoyed a free hand to rule over the areas of their choice to subjugate citizens,” he said, and added that the country had moved forward in a right direction on the path of democracy.

The PPP leader deplored that a huge amount of money was being invested in the ‘killing business’. He questioned the financial sources of investments and said that there must be multi-dimensional dividends being earned through these nefarious acts.

Mr Haider reaffirmed support from within the PPP to its policy of reconciliation, and said militancy should be crushed. “The process of dialogue with all political forces should continue and the political process should be strengthened,” he said.

He observed that people of all ethnic communities and political entities opposed terrorism and wanted the elected government to succeed in its struggle against ‘urban terrorism’ in a way similar to the one that pursued successfully against terrorism in the northern areas.

He said the PPP, which had lost its great leader, Benazir Bhutto, and hundreds of devoted workers to terrorism, fully felt the grief of the bereaved families of violence victims and believed that formal condolences could not console them. All peace-loving democratic forces would have to root out terrorism, he added.

well the word on the street is simple and this is what everyone is saying:

Yeh beghairat pathan hamesha humsaay jaltaay hain! Bhai naay kaha hai amaan rakho sabaar kaaro warna hum inn subki lashiyan bichaa daaytaay.

the sad part is in 1947 all people coming from india came to karachi (the capital then) and made it their home and today when punjabis, sindhis, balochis & pathans come they are hostile against them when they themselves claim that in 90s people were hostile against them.

the question is who is mohajir in karachi now? & clearly if 80% of karachi is under MQM then killings in qasba colony, kaati phari & orangi town (where mostly bus drivers have been killed) is clearly a killing of pashtuns.

an operation must be done against both MQM & ANP!!! disarm both of htese parties and put their leaders on trial!

KARACHI:

Zafraan Bahraam didn’t complain about the gaping gunshot wound in his left leg. His only regret was that he was unable to rescue his 20-year-old nephew Arif who was killed late Thursday night when bullets were fired upon their house in Qasba Colony. He didn’t even have any attendants with him at Jinnah hospital’s ward No. 3 since his relatives were unable to make it because of the violence. When asked whether anyone from Sind Club, where Zafraan works as low-level employee, had come to ask for him, he said: “Nobody cares for you in times of need.”

Bahraam is one of the countless victims who have been pouring in from Orangi Town. SP Orangi Khurram Waris says his town is the only area in the city where the “mother of all battles” are not only staged, but also where it all ends. But why Orangi? Also, are there any stakeholders that could possibly benefit from this conflict?

Anwar Rashid is one of the pioneers of the Orangi Pilot Project and has been associated with the programme since 1982. “The violence we see today in the town is wrongly being portrayed as an ethnic clash. Actually, it is not a fight between two groups,” he believes.

According to Rashid, Orangi, which is one-tenth of Karachi’s size in terms of population, has over the years become an ideal breeding ground for mafias working in land grabbing, drugs and gun running in the city.

Towns like Orangi are a strategic asset for criminals since it provides the best escape routes. “The town is located at a strategic location, connected by land routes to Balochistan via the Mai Garri road and touches the Northern Bypass through a 12-minute drive from Maymarabad,” he says. And to add insult to injury, the same criminal elements have taken refuge in different political parties. Given these affiliations, the law enforcement authorities wouldn’t dare enter their narrow streets.

The more violence Orangi sees, the more business the arms mafia gets. Rashid alleges that even the law enforcement authorities like the police are beneficiaries of this bloody conflict, since the same mafia also grease their palms.

There is no treasure hidden in the hills of Orangi, quips Rashid. However, the material from the hills are being used to make cement. “There is one [...] cement factory in the town that exploits the resources of the hills this way,” he says. Orangi is also the hub of the cottage industry.

Criminologist Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat says that the law enforcement authorities haven’t been able to control the violence in the city, specifically in Orangi because they lack a “free hand”.

“Sindh Police officers have been posted in peacekeeping missions in Sudan, where they have been very successful. So if the same officers can maintain peace there, don’t you think they can handle Orangi?” he asks. The Karachi University professor blames the government for failing to establish its writ since the criminals are being backed by all mainstream political parties. “This way the government too has a stake in the violence.”

Burfat, who was posted in Orangi during the 1980s, recalled that the first sparks of ethnic violence emerged there because of the infamous Bushra Zaidi bus accident. Although the mindset of ethnic hatred that began in 1986 because of General Ziaul Haq’s policies remains the same, Burfat believes today the balance of power has somewhat shifted between two ethnic groups since they are all heavily armed. “Back in the 1980s, I recall one political party leader chanting the slogan ‘TV baycho, bandook lo’ [sell your tv, buy guns],” he says, adding that it is an irony that the same group which sold its arms and ammunition was now being targeted by the same people who bought them.
