KARACHI: Crime Investigation Department (CID) conducted a raid at Super Highway and arrested Lyari gang war accused Shahid Malik alias Bikik on Thursday, Geo News reported.

According to the CID sources, Shahid Malik was arrested during a raid that was conducted at the Super Highway while he was enroute to Nawabshah from Karachi.

Shahid aka Bikik is one of the prime accused of Lyari gang war, and was also involved in the attack that killed Bilal Sheikh, top security officer of former president Asif Ali Zardari. He was also wanted in other cases of murder, attempted murder, extortion and robbery.

Bilal Sheikh was killed in a suicide blast targeting his double cabin vehicle in the Gurumandir area of Karachi on July 10, 2013.

It may be mentioned here that personnel of a sensitive agency apprehended another prime accused of Lyari gang war, Sheraz Comrade and his two accomplices from Lahore when they were trying to escape to Dubai from the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were shifted to an unidentified location for interrogation. The other two accomplices of comrade were identified as Zakir Mogheeri and Awais Tipu. The agency personnel conducted a raid outside the premises of the Lahore airport on a tip-off and arrested them minutes before they were about to fly to Dubai.

Sheraz Comrade was wanted by the LEA in more than 100 cases of target killings, extortion and kidnappings for ransom. The Sindh government had also fixed Rs5 lakh as head money for the arrest of Comrade. Soon after the arrest of Comrade, police and other LEAs conducted raids in different parts of the city to arrest other criminals and their facilitators on the pointing of arrested accused persons.

It is worth mentioning that the Lahore Police had arrested a notorious target killer Amin Baleedi a couple of days ago. The law-enforcement agencies have become active since the criminals of the Lyari gang war have started fleeing to different parts of the country after the launch of targeted operation against criminals in Karachi.

SC orders Sindh govt to clear Karachi of weapons, no go areas

524497a96d8f8.jpg

KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan Thursday ordered the provincial government in Sindh to clear the capital, Karachi of illicit arms, ammunition and “no go areas.”

The larger bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, has directed the authorities concerned to initiate the process for surrendering of illicit weapons within 15 days for ensuring peace in the port city.

The court, in its interim order passed in Karachi law and order implementation case, ordered the application of rule of law as well as the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the citizens under Article 9 of the Constitution.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, and Director General Rangers (Sindh) were directed to submit reports on the next date of hearing that “the entire city has been cleared and there is no ‘no go area’ there anymore.”

The Supreme Court, showing satisfaction with Sindh government over promulgating a law on the subject, urged the other provincial governments to attend to the issue as well at the earliest.

“It may be pointed out that in countries like Pakistan where such situation exists, the executive authorities have to take drastic steps with a view to control and maintain law and order situation in order to protect the life of the citizens.”

“In the instant case without depoliticising the police, positive result apparently seems to be an uphill task; however, to ensure peace in Karachi, certain steps will have to be taken.”

The Supreme Court declared presence of 2.5 million aliens in Karachi more alarming than targeted killing and similar violent activities.

“Presence of such persons is not only a factor for increase in crime, but at the same time without proper registration, they are a burden on the national economy and many other administrative problems.”

The government should take immediate action against them in accordance with law, namely the Foreigners Act, ordered the apex court bench.

The court also ordered NADRA and police to initiate cleansing operation by identifying fake National Identity Card (NIC) holders in the city.
