I've been hearing rumors about this since last years, but nothing else since, its supposed to be 6 ships.

What info do you have?

The ones for the Indian navy don't carry antiship missiles, but for Vietnam, they would need to have them.

The ones for the Indian navy don't carry antiship missiles, but for Vietnam, they would need to have them.

Already operating in IN. It has a anti ship main gun with effective range being 20 to 25 kms. Plus it has got tarpedo tubes and India has long range tarpedo for such purpose against sub as well as ship. It has powerful radar system and inbuilt phisical stealh plus IR suppressors as well. So enemy will have to come really close if they want to detect it first. While this ship can position itself in favrable place of its own choice. And its main effective ness is anti air capability against supersonic and hypersonic missiles against shipping with anti sub warfare being strongest point. Thank you.

As we all are aware that Indian boats are pretty costly but we provide funds in partial amt to friendly countries as other strong naval traditional countries do.

The Indian Kamorta class is primarily for anti-submarine. But the export version can be configured according to the customers requirement. Here is the one offered to the Philippines. It has the same hull as the Indian Kamorta class but will have different superstructure and weapons suite:

Notice that the Philippines is asking for 2 frigates with a budget of USD$412 million, so this Kamorta variant being offered by India is very very low cost. I think it's realistic that the Viet navy is looking at a potential procurement for 6 ships.

Can you tell us what did you hear specifically about these ships for Vietnam? A source in the VN navy told me last year that the navy had decided to get 6 Kamorta ships and they were surprised as well, but no more info and nothing else was heard since.

Those anti ship weapons are still low range, but that's ok for how the Indian navy plans to operate in the Indian ocean, but for Vietnam to operate them in the south china sea, they will need long range anti ship missiles.

The 4 Kamortas for India is just the first batch, after those 4 it will be an upgraded model, the P-28A but I can't find details on it.

The chinese press has being saying for a while that VN will get 6 Kamortas, but can't get any other details from anywhere else.
