According to a study, the Kalabagh Dam will have the capacity of generating 3,600MW of electricity which will save $4 billion annually for the country, excluding the 30 percent line losses.

“Kalabagh Dam would guarantee sufficient and cheap electricity,” said the official adding that thermal power costs Rs16 per unit, where as hydel power costs Rs2.5 to Rs3 per unit.

It would have provided cheap electricity to the whole country, not just Punjab. So why it hasn't been built?

Sir, I've read a lot about this Dam thing that stuck for decades. I don't know why its not being built, will you or someone else be kind enough to explain to me where the issue is? This seems very beneficial reading your post and other articles. But I'd really like to learn the reasons why its been stuck for decades... Thanks

You need to hang few foreign funded politicians that's all needed to build this dam.

The opposing parties at the time of proposal were of KPK and Sindh. Current Punjab government has a problem now?

Yes those few foreign funded politicians are in Sindh & KPK. Punjab don't have problem but the leaders of Punjab are also mean as well, They are also not ready to share the royalties from power generation for sake of national interests (However in principle they are right).

If only leaders of Pakistan could put the country above their ravenous for power.

This project is long gone, after political parties, and provinces started politics on kalabagh dam. This project is inevitable for us , but thanks to our all politicians for ruining this inevitable project. It is dead due to political games.

No, punjab is not problem, It was PPPP, and now possibly KPK government will play politics too.

Such ginormous potential lost due to intrusive political parties.

It's not dead! Ayub Khan gave away rivers to India on condition of building Kalabagh dam and sharing its water with north punjab otherwise it will become barren again like in pre British era affecting 50% of overall Pakistan crops. This is lifeline for us and will be build at any cost. But not in near future, first Pakistan need to build bhasha dam and some others.

Bhasha Dam was proposed around 2006-07, at that it said would be complete in 10-12 years. come 2013, Mr Ishaq Dar said another 10-12 years.

It's not built because we have traitors sitting on top seats and no one has been able to do anything about it and the only institution that could have, has been blessing the nation with NRO

No technical reason.

Royalties are usually shared with investors.... however, opposition /politics so far has been puerly based on baseless technical claims.

Interesting answer Sir. Will you tell me how long do the power outages last now a days? Has anything changed compared to a few year ago? (I read some member's comments here a few years ago that the electricity goes away for 18 hours a day). How long was it for, and what is it now? Thanks
