Dam reservoir is filled with the help of flood water mostly. Also, a reservoir like that of KBD will take 1-2 years to fill up. It's not like suddenly the water will be blocked downstream till KBD reservoir is filled. Instead KBD will ensure steady and constant flow of water to Sindh even in dry months.

Also, infrastructure needs to be build to replenish the aquifer. A water storage right under our feet. Build so that when floods or heavy rains come the water can be send down, and people can pump out what they need through the existing infrastructure

In previous times, kings would dig huge ponds to store rain/flood water. We are not even doing that we need to identify sites will low elevation basins and large enough catchment areas and dig ponds there and leave it to nature. And just so that you know, it is the most common and effective way of ground water replenishment.

At times of major increased water stress we face having to persuade people about dams. What a sad state of affairs.

Wapda documents from 1980s identified 34 different sites

Yet the nation got fixated rather fooled into beleving that there is just one option..

Problem in sindh is dry months water ersoion from sea
That doesnt happen as there is no water in winter

5MAF of water needs to be released per year at fix rate down stream
Instead 20- 40MAF water flows during four months and nothing in last 8 months

However

Storage isnt the major problems

Wastage and flood irrigation is the major problem and noone is ready to fix it

Build a dam on the Soan river instead of the kalabagh Dam and it more then addresses the concern.

Govt should redirect all its funds to in-progress bhasha and Muhmand Dam for their construction asap
