K-15 test likely today

Hats off to Mr. Saraswat for making DRDO a functional organisation.

Still we are importing rifles..

I suggest putting a freeze on these missiles which are most probably not going to be used and concentrate on developing a decent assault rifle first.

I say both go parallel. but yes small arms and MANPADs have been ignored badly.

TBH, this import of assault rifles wasn't that necessary.

Army could have done the job with upgraded INSAS, Tavor.

That is not happening friend...things like assault rifles, manpads, ATGMs, artillery are the backbone of any fighting force and have much more probability of getting used in anger than these missiles. And we are producing none of the above. Yes we have made impressive progress in the ballistic missile area..but honestly are they going to be used ? I dont think so. So we need to identify our priorities.

Ofcourse it is necessary..we need to improve our innovation bottom up...and also if we could design a good rifle, manpads etc think about the export possibilities..which is not possible with these BMs

Innovation will be there if we stick with INSAS, no one can come up with a world class product satisfying all criteria at once. It's a trial and error process, with effective feed back mechanism. Army should raise their concerns and problems they're facing with INSAS and possible remedy, and let DRDO/Ordnance factory come up with a solution.

If we go to foreign vendors for every such small requirements, that's gross disappointment for Indian R&D.

.
Its great that India is confusing everyone about this missile. This would only keep everyone guessing about its capability.

Thats what Im saying..if I were an outsider (non-Indian) with only a scant knowledge of India, I would actually refuse to believe that a country with ICBM, SSBN, Aircraft carrier, Space behicle launch technology imports its assault rifles. Like seriously.

As of now DRDO has shown that its not willing to do anything on the rifle front and this shows in the lacklustre models that they have been peddling out..something needs to be done on this front.

I don't find it lackluster, given that American M4 or Israeli Galil is still the mainstay of their respective army.
