RAWALPINDI: Religious scholar and former Senator Maulana Samiul Haq has been killed in a targeted gun attack in Rawalpindi.

The emir of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Sami (JUI-S) in Peshawar has confirmed the news of his death.

Unknown motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on the vehicle of the JUI-S chief. The intense gunfire also reportedly killed Haq's driver and guard.

The JUI-S chief was injured and was being taken to hospital when he succumbed to his wounds on the way.
