‘Joy Bangla’ national slogan: High Court

Joy Bangla means victory to Bangla (afaik).

Now, Bangla here refers to 3 things:
- Bangla language
- Bengal region/culture in general
- Bangladesh as a country

Joy Bangla was more of a war cry during 1971 for an independent country whose basis was Bangla/Bengali language because Urdu(a foreign language) was supposedly imposed on them.

Now since the war is over, should they be using Joy Bangla for the country? Answer can be, Yes. If you refer to the 3 points above, you can see one of them refers to Bangladesh as an state. But, the problems comes from some masses who believe that it refers to other point about Bengal region in general and does not necessarily speaks of Bangladesh specifically. So, they want some other slogan.

And here comes, Bangladesh Zindabad which just means Long live Bangladesh. This one specifically refers to Bangladesh. Can it be used? Sure, but here is a problem. Some believe it should not be used because it comes from Urdu, a language which was imposed on them and they fought for Bengali language. Some others believe that it comes from Persian and it is already borrowed in Bangla language so no problem using it.

Anyway, whatever it is and whatever it will be, it's their country and their choice. Wish them luck and move on.

Joy Bangla was never war cry, simply it was as a part of Bengali people of Pakistan then it continued as AL political slogan after independence of Bangladesh.

You can also cry as joy/jai Punjab, Jay Sindh, jai balochistan, joy Pakistan bla bla bla that's never a war cry. And although joy meaning victory it's only one meaning, but there are several meaning and expression of it. In joy Bangla it's never related to any type of victory.

It's a simple hailing to the Bengali nation like we are great nation, we are peaceful, we are prosperous. Another example is maharaj ki Jay ho... Look when a king or a noble show charity, they can be hailed as joy. Or let's say according to Hindu hailing as they say joy ma kali, joy jagannath, joy bholenath bla bla bla, nothing necessarily mean victory to them.

Simply I am trying to say it's a hailing/praising to motherland Bangladesh and nothing else. You have to be fluent in Bengali in order to know some complex curve of Bengali language, it's not an easy language for non native speakers.

It's impossible to get nearly the correct expression using any translator.

Ps: I prefer Bangladesh Zindabad/joy Bangladesh as it sounds more independent. Joy Bangla remind me that once we were a province of Pakistan and the slogan was for Bengali speaking Pakistanis who are now a different sovereign country.

So yes for independent Bangladesh, Bangladesh Zindabad/ joy Bangladesh sounds better.

Yes agree, joy Bangladesh or Bangladesh Zindabad is more appropriate for a sovereign nation. But it looks AL still consider themselves as part of Pakistan so they are trying to give bhashon.

Some AL chetona khors/drunks are writing status that 7 March speech boil their blood and make their heart revolt. And they upset because AL didn't play the record for long time in 7 March 2020.

My question is revolt against whom? Against Pakistan? We were separated 50 years ago, still why they need to revolt and also against whom? I call it slave mentality of some chetona khors/drunk people who lacks common sense.

Maybe it's because we plan to annex rest of the Bengal region which includes Assam, West Bengal, Tripura etc etc & establish the new Republic of Akhanda Bangladesh.

Zindabad is urdu word. India's slogan is jai Hind.

Both India and Bangladesh copy zindabad slogan from Pakistan. For Bangladesh it is understandable because it was part of Pakistan.

Get over your huge inferiority complex here. We Pukhtuns, balochi, Kashmiris, Sindhis, Punjabi’s and other groups had our own languages. My grandparents & very old relatives still speak understand Farsi 2nd language. Urdu was brought by refugees and used as a neutral language for state not to favour local one over others. Pakistan’s was Farsi language spoken many parts of Pakistan between various groups before British came. We have our own very rich culture you ape Indians is not of ours. Then why did you modify it and call it "Hindi" if you're so proud of Urdu? It's like some Bollywood copy. You do realise that "hindi" is a name given to an adulterated version of Urdu? Urdu is the precursor. India should pay royalties to Pakistan whenever it speaks Hindi.

I had also noticed anecdotally that "z" is a difficult sound for many native Indians. I'm not sure why. Perhaps there is no "zaal" in Hindi?? Often "z" comes out as "j". I don't know the details of this phenomenon.
