JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 7]

The 'Bs' hit different when captured from air. Very Block 52ish.

Is it just me? Or JFs give look of the Mirage 3/5/2000 family as well from certain angles and distances?

^^Front end has resemblance here. I wish the JF shown here had air refiling probe too.

^^Here you can see JF also has a slight slant in its wings. Plus look of the wings also resembles with drop tanks attached. Both have similar looking drop tanks, Mirage ones are slightly bigger perhaps.

^^ A DCS image of JEF in colour scheme similar to a mirage, makes it look very much like a mirage.

^^Looks short and stout just like a mirage from a distance. Very similar look in my opinion.

A question

Since we have gotten CAMM ER and Aster 30 is on the cards as well (Allegedly) what are the chances that we can get Meteor as well?
What if JF17B are upgraded with Grifo E and meteor while blk 3 gets Pl 15. Is that route worth going?

Why would you need Meteor if you'll have PL-15.
Don't see the chances of this happening, they'd not want to upset their cash cow (India).

It’s certainly doable, anything is, but it’s not feasible. JF is meant to be a low cost platform, integrating a new Radar and western weaponry on it would cost a lot for little benefit compared to the Chinese alternatives. Pakistan did pick the KLJ-7A over the Italian offering already as we know, though I would have preferred the Italian radar myself, that decision has a lot of other factors related to it other than just the radars performance, like integration of new avionics, making it compatible with Chinese missiles, the cost and logistics of operating two separate systems on the same aircraft, so on, so in that sense the Chinese one is definitely the correct option. Even if in an ideal world all of this was available to Pakistan, it wouldn’t make sense financially.

Plus, PL-15 and PL-10E are already comparable to their western counterparts. Meteor wouldn’t add much capability.
We are getting the CAMM-ER and hopefully the Aster where it makes sense. There’s always some doubt over Chinese missiles because they are often not as well advertised or commonly exported, but given chinas current state it would be naive to assume they are making worst stuff than the west.

Grifo E was on the cards as a radar for the JF-17B3, if you check its brochure you will even see the JF-17 there, infact, ill do you one better, the VIXEN-1000E, from the Gripen E was on offer also. The problem is MBDA would favor a deal with India any day, especially since its majority British and French, the reason why CAMM-ER was selected was because its an italian development of a brit-italian venture, therefore having more italian influence. ASTER also was a french-italian venture, giving Italy power over exports. Anyway, having Meteor would be moot because both india and pak would know about eachothers missiles and come up with tactics to defeat them. If a western radar was selected i can assure you they would use the AIM-120C5 as opposed to the Meteor.

Why JF-17 thunder sheds conspicuous air vortices over its Wings long trailing behind the plane during flight? while others plane like mirage and F-16 do not have so obvious vortices.
does this air vortex help during flight or mitigate plane performance?
What improvments Block 3 will bring in flight envelope with reference to speed and maneuverability?
pardon me in advance if my questions do fall in absurd and dump category in the minds of experts.

India has already committed by buying Rafale, what are they going to do if Pakistan gets the meteor? Will they not buy the planes or the missiles, after all they've already dumped a crap ton of money into it.

its is base on rejected Soviet design project named project -33 in the 80s which had a lot of look like F-16
PAF & Changdu further modified it if you look at the front its look like F-16 as well as at certain angles its looks like single engine version of Mig-29 and definitely from certain angles its look likes Mirages

but your twin engine and single engine theory is wrong, twin engine jets are always better than single engine jets

Meteor is allowed only if using a EU origin radar, India checked prospect to get it for SU-30 and Tejas and this is the reply received.

PAF must have evaluated Grifo-E+ Meteor, however not chosen. Could be a option if chosen by a export client, but PAF decided not to take this route.

JF-17Bs are also training aircraft so they will need commonality with JF-17B2. If JF-17B2s get the air cooled AESA upgrade then it could be a possibility that they be upgraded with it too.

It's because the JF-17 has LERX, similar to the F-18, this causes the vortices. The vortices generate extra lift, which allows the aircraft to have good nose authority at high angles of attack, and near stall speeds. You can see similar vortices with the F-18.
