Does anybody know whats on the jf-17 production line these days, supposedly 50 pieces of block-II rolled off by 2017 year end. Is the production line empty?

Block 2 will continue to fill the gap between II and iii upgrade does not constitute production plus upgrade is mostly plug and play type environmental system and avionics plus software

I believe PAF will go fo upto 200 examples with 16 of them assigned to ccs, 40 examples of dual seat in 2 squadrons, and 144 divided into 8 single seat squadrons.

If you go by replacements sqn so 2 a5, 4 f7p, 3 f7pg and 6 mirage Sqn that 15 sqn average 18 per sqn plus 2 for attrition replacement ie 20 per sqn 20x15 is the requirement for paf

That was the reason Jf program was launched w/o plaaf as paf plus 100 -150 other buyers expected

Time will tell if jf or something else will replace some or all

I concur, the final number is closer to 300 with all replacements and extras.

No, the decision is with either a variant of the J-31 or an airframe Chendgu has in mind.

Pakistan has pretty strong relationships with the team at Chengdu so it could very well be this mystery airframe.

Any chance they might look at 2~3 squadrons of off-the-shelf FC-31 as a stopgap for Azm? It could make for a good option for replacing the Mirage III/5 in the strike and maritime roles.

Bilal it would be possible yet don't you think the off the shelf would be too expensive to maintain ? Rather wait a couple of years under nuclear protection to buy extra 4-5 local Azm squadrons

project azm is atleast 10 years and likely 12-15 years from serial production
juts look at thunder time frame for reference
