I think jft test and evaluation squad reserves 8 sbp for it. they are not included in any squadron so 42 + 8 = 50. and 142 is the last block 1

That could be true, since the initial 8 aircraft of blk 1 were assembled from kits. PAC production was 42 aircraft i suppose. In any case, the current two squadrons at Peshawar are also used for training other squadrons.

.
If we consider the first 50 order, last aircraft will be XX-150.

In the second week of November 2012, it was reported that 47 out of 50 had been produced.

PAC Kamra has capacity to export JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft: Air Marshal Sohail Gul - The Lahore Times

In May 2013, PAC had produced 40+ JF-17s. That means total no. was more than 40+8=48.

In October 2013, PAC had produced 45 JF-17s. That means total no. was 45+8=53.

Pakistan to sell 05 to 07 JF-17 Thunder next year | The News Tribe

Only 46 have so far entered service out of which 1 was lost to crash. 45 left.

If you observe SIPRI figures, 61 JF-17s (including 8 SBP) were delivered by China till the end of 2012. Those numbers indicate 61 Blk 1s have been ordered in total.

Air-to-Air refueling is only for Block 2, not the basic version.

Interesting part is why when the initial contract signed in 2008-09 was only for 42 to be built in Pakistan..

May be the third squadron strength was also increased by PAF to 20 Per squadron than only it makes sense.

And also this mean the target of 100-120 JF-17 by 2016 can be very well completed even still

.
Hopefully, we will see the third squadron in a month or two.

142 is NOT the last block 1.
148 will be the last.

how 148? why not 150?

I believe the order was for 48 aircraft (first batch). 16+16+16=Three Squadrons

Meanwhile, other key announcements are expected to emanate from the show with HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces also visiting on the show’s opening day. The Pakistan delegation confirmed its Air Chief Marshall and Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Air Force are due to arrive for first day talks with leaders of China’s leading aviation investment company, AVIC.

“We do expect to conclude sales here,” said Air Cadre Tariq Mahmood, “particularly as we have been promoting our JF-17 Thunder both at the 2011 event and now.”

The JF-17 Thunder fighter jet is scheduled for the Dubai Airshow’s daily flying display.

Pakistan Has Export Plans for Jet Fighter Produced With China

The market for the JF-17 fighter appears to be expanding in unexpected ways. At the Dubai Airshow, which opened on Sunday, the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex had a freshly minted example on display, complete with an array of Chinese-made missiles and bombs.

The Pakistani company jointly produces the plane with China’s Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation; the fighter is seen as one of China’s efforts to move up the value chain in arms exports. But according to recent news reports, Pakistan has plans to export the aircraft itself.
Who would buy a plane like this — equivalent to a “fourth-generation” fighter like those produced in the United States and the former Soviet Union 30 years ago — from Pakistan? The Diplomat cites Sri Lanka, Kuwait and Qatar as among the countries making inquiries. The last two countries are a surprise, considering they buy much of their hardware from the United States now.

But regardless of who is buying, the display in Dubai, which in 2011 saw more than $63 billion worth of deals closed, shows that Pakistan is serious about selling.

Now if 135 was inducted in 2011 then what they have been doing in 2012 and 2013? Mean they don't have enough money to continue at maximum production capacity.?

We can only speculate due to economy and Pakistan unable to pay china, JF-17 program slowed down
