JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 4]

ecently fresh pics have surfaced showing the Jf-17 Prototype 06 at Chengdu Airforce base flying with a new pod. Many speculations have emerged so forth, some labeling it a new ECM pod like the KG-300 , some say its a new targeting pod similar to WMD-7, some have guessed it to be an IRST pod while other speculations sat that this is just a camera pod.

The last explanation seems more plausible as this Jf-17 was seen as a chase plane for China new 5th Gen Stealth aircraft, the Chengdu J-20. So most likely it was just up in the air with a camera pod to monitor the flight of J-20

I would like to congratulate PAC-K for its signature Thunder Project. It seems to be coming along really well all things considered.
At this point I would like to offer a side-bar to this story:
If we view the first video posted by Antibody in post#327 on 04.10.2012, It is Part 1 of 2 & has a playtime duration of 13:48; please pay close attention to frames during 03:37 - 03:39.......the gentleman on extreme right in that shot wearing a grey V-neck or a cardigan with a tie.
Now when one is engaged in intense international parleys, it is best not to exhibit too many obsessive tropisms\ticks so as not transmit a "tell" but this is a bit more queasy! I am sure the gentleman is a real nice dude and perhaps now superannuated to a bungalow in Abbottabad. But the point here is for all you young Pak guns reading this, who expect to represent their homeland in momentous conferences at a future date (specially ones that are being videotaped!!!) to be cognizant of the cultural sensibilities of nations that mean a great deal to your homeland. Chinese, from personal experience, are incredibly fastidious about personal & physical hygiene as are Americans. One ought not to play with facial hair and steal a cheeky peck into one's shnause. Particulary if you expect to sit down for dinner with the hosts later on or just shake their hands and\or ask for sovereign favors.
It may seem sarcastic or "frivolous" but that is not my intent. It is useful for Paks to gain insight into how they & their actions are viewed by others.
Back to topic: Please resume the pridefest on your very capable weapon platform system. Once Pakistan is prepared to export this system, she will enhance her stature/leverage among all potential buyer countries. Something to think about....eh?

well this is probably the 100th time that we have confirmation that sd-10 is operational and may be even c-802 according to this article.
also i think it means that block 2 will have 100 aircrfts till 2015 so total of 150 as it has been mentioned before

Hi Mr. Farooqi, kindly please think through your posts before posting them. The "product mix" you have proposed for the PAF would be unsustainable from a simple maintenance dimension. Second, the PAF does not have the budget to support such a diverse and expensive fleet. Lastly, in the current politcal scenario, other than China no one else will sell Pakistan any high tech aircraft.

You have to believe Gripens-Sukhios are Flying all across with-in tiny-small african-non african nations But You are been fed with can't cope with the Technology have no funds and going after a similar platform that offers same that Vipers are offering But hopefully things would be atleast better in coming years.

Lets not lose hope lets wait for that someday someone will swing that magic wand and make our economy better so we can pick and choose.

All three there are test beds (JF-17, J-10, J-20) and they both (JF-17 & J-20) might be in some kind of testing phase.

I myself thought it as IRST pod because of its close resemblance to PAC IRST pod.

Sorry for uninvited interference. I am trying to get as many members inform about a possible idea. As you know Russian President Putin is about to visit Pakistan. I beleive we need to get govt and PAF attention for some defence deal. I posted the following comments under J10 thread. Please read and think..

Mr. Farooqi - There are ONLY TWO things that I agree with you, that is, the threat theater has increased beyond just the neighboring borders of India and second, F-16's have restrictions specially from an embargo / sanction's standpoint.

The rest, you seem like out of touch with reality. Let's dissect your own analysis.....let's assume we have the same numbers of jets that 'you'd rather have' compared to JFT & J10B's standard numbers about to be procured.
Do you REALLY think having the little jets that you are recommending, you'll threaten NATO or the US? Use your common sense. I am assuming you are an adult over 18. Even India or Russia in conventional conflict can't win with NATO. That's the reality.

Second, JFT & J10B are not pieces of junks. Whoever thinks that, is smoking stuff that may be considered illegal in all US states. PAF never procured JFT to fight the F22 or a fleet of NATO's air forces. It was a replacement for jets purchased 30 years ago. Tell you the truth, this jet can hold its own against anything non F 22 & F 35 class. Add some AESA and RCS reduction measures to it further and this becomes a credible problem for even NATO. But, PAF's doctrine is defensive in nature with limited offense capability. I'd like to see some stealthy features getting introduced, heavy engines, large SAMS & AESA.
JFT is actually superior to F-16 up to block 40. It matches a lot of things in Block 52 though. So it can hold it own without doubt.
Pak needs to have credible & proven deterrence (sanction proof) and work on economy and becoming a more moderate country like Malaysia & Indonesia. Economic expansion will let you build or buy anything!

You are absolutely right but somehow my un- scientific mind can not comprehend that how an F-16 (which we have in limited quantities and would not get more given the US back stabing policies) and JFT can defend against more powerfull twine engine aircrafts. I know it will be expensive to have twine engine fighters but nothing more important then the defense of our motherland.

Following is a quote from another posters comments which describe my own feelings and thoughts

"If Pakistan has sensible, literate and intelligent Air Command it should realise by now that real threat can not only come from the Eastern border but is more dangerously present now at the Western front as far West as Israel or more given the aggressive and hostile military presence of USA and NATO and subversive Israeli MOSSAD presence inside Pakistan.

Instead of 250 JFT and 150 J10B, I would rather have 36 Su30 or SU35 and 36 J11bs. 100 JFT and 36 J10b along with 36 SU 30 and 36 J11b may just cost us the same amount of money but would give us parity (not in numbers but in technology and capabilities) with the modern Air Forces in our region.

And please no more nuclear deterrent. We have enough of that. I beleive God has provided us a chance in the form of Putins visit and we should take advantage of it. Just my opinion.

In my last trip back home (February this year) I had the privilege of meeting and talking to a fine brave pilot of PAF and believe me as per that fine young man morals are down. And I don't blame him. I mean no matter how good of a shooter you are, you don't have much of chance if you only have 9mm Glock and your opposition have a machine gun.

I am requesting all the forum members to think about it. And let us start a campaign and do what ever we can in our capacity. Write letters emails to PAF and Government etc. May Allaha make us realise that what needed to be done. Nothing is impossible. We just need to believe and do the right thing.

horrible analysis ...... i can,t under stand that a normal person living in US declared a join project between two countries as a junk and thousands of people working on the projects are just nuts that they never know that they are working on a junk plane.... why should not we appoint u rather then so many military men because they have just wasted billions on a junk plane with many year of research......

get some knowledge first dude then with your logics and analysis prove us that jf17 is a junk and we are so dum mind people that we are now purchasing another junk j 10 then we will surely accept the fact that we even stand against our enemy's militery might,..................
