JF-17 Thunder Multirole Fighter [Thread 3]

They will be in the same class of fighters, what makes them very comparable, but we should let them both come into operational service first and then compare their specs. Too many points are still unknown now, so anything we could do now is just speculating.

rightly said,
it is rather pre-mature to start comparing them for now!
considering the JF17 first squadron not operational as yet and more insane with the LCA still nowhere to be found, DROD is still working on this plane and it have yet to entre full scale production and therefor comparing it with JF is a bit too soon, even with the JF17 operational and undergoing weapon integration but still they are not operational in battle squadrons!

regards!

The point is Thunder will form core of PAF where as after MRCA it is clear that IAF core will be formed by different platforms (MKI+SH etc.). Pakistan wants to minimize its logistical, training, conversion, maintenance and support hazards by keeping one uniform multi role fighter for bulk of its AF roles and operation. There will be F-16 and FC-20 but they will be assigned to more specialized roles along with AWACS like SEAD/DEAD operations deep into enemy land. So this again indicate that PAF will HAVE TO keep on investing in this fighter to keep it up to date to take on any challenge which means that THUNDER will evolve further in coming years and PAF has committed so as well time and again.

Interesting thing will be how PAF use first squadron of these planes which will be stationed in Peshawar AB facing Afghanistan not India. Afghanistan don't have any active AF.So why start from that particular Air Base?

.
PAF is planning to have Combat Fleet comprising of JF-17s, F-16s and J-10s / Fc-20s for next 20 years. PAF must look for any VTOL aircrafts for its fleet. They should start planning for it now. Airbases are the first targets in any major war. Air defence strategies are greatly enhanced with VTOLs.. They can emerge from anywhere, they can attack from anywhere. Bigger nations with strong air power, vast lands and various airbases don't need VTOLs as much as the size and shape of countries like of us.

Interesting point... But there is another angle of all this. I think Cruise missiles and Blastic missiles are more worrisome for defending forward air bases.

Pakistan itself is relaying more and more on BM and CM rather than going for classic old days SEAD/DEAD operations because size of PAF via-a-vis IAF don'r permit it. Once FABs taken care of then actual Air battles will take on. Long range missiles like Shaheen and Agni will enable both countries to launch their BMs/CM from distant launching pads deep in their territories.

So, Idea is invest more in Missile and Anti missiles rather than VTOLs.

Disagree with they will be in the same class there is no way Thunder and LCA are in the same class.LCA is a early 4th Gen Fighter while Thunder is Medium 4th Gen Fighter which is comparable to F-16 Blk 40 and the upgraded version will be like F-16 blk 60 with ASEA radar there are both different fighters for different roles to perform in a war
Both will be light weight, single engine, multi role, 4th gen fighters with similar techs (like multi mode radar, glass cockpit, fbw...) and both will be upgraded in their second versions with AESA radar, better engines... to 4+ gen fighters.
Btw the block 60 will be hard to reach for both of these fighters, because AESA radar is not the only point where they lack behind. Thrust to weight ratio, maneuverability, payload, weapons and not to mention the avionics, that already should have 5. gen techs of F35 included.
The biggest difference is, that JF 17 will be the core of PAF in the biggest numbers, but LCA (even in similar numbers) is only meant as a low cost addition to MKI, MMRCA and later FGFA/MCA. The only reason that there is so much importance behind it is, because it is the first real own project (just like JF to PAF). But whereas PAF is interested in developing the fighter to the limits, IAF won't focus so much on LCA and will go on with next gen developments, soon after MK2 is inducted.

that is because the A5 are the ones that are on top of list of aircraftd to be grounded and it is an A5 squadron stationed in peshawar.
also to equip bases facing india Pakistan will wait for JF17 blk II,III.
for a review of information the F16 blk52 will be stationed in Shukkar! ;)

From Wikipedia:
JF-17 Thunder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pakistan Aeronautical Complex began manufacturing JF-17 sub-assemblies on 22 January 2008.[42] [43] Manufacture of parts had already begun at PAC in 2005. The PAF was to receive a further 6 pre-production (small batch production, SBP) aircraft that year, giving it a total of 8 out of an initial production run of 16 aircraft. Initial operating capability (IOC) was to be achieved by the end of 2008. [44]
...
Final assembly of the JF-17 in Pakistan began on 30 June 2009, with PAC expected to complete production of 4-6 aircraft before the end of the year. PAC then plans to produce 12 aircraft in 2010 and 15-16 aircraft per year from 2011. This may eventually be increased to 25 aircraft per year.[46]

Normally you shouldn't trust Wikipedia for various reasons, but there are reliable sources for the above info.

If you look in the old thread, there is a video and some images taken from the same video. They show #109 and #110 on the assembly floor in a Chinese factory!

Look for the images and videos from about 2 months ago of the highly published “Start of Series Production at PAC, Kamra”, you can count about 5 airframes on the assembly floor.
