Yes there are two squadrons in service. A senior PAF official associated with the JFT project was interviewed on Sept. 6(anniversary of our war with India in 1965), and he said the number manufactured were 33. Possibly added one or two more since then(depending on what state of completion these airframes were at that point).

The PAF is a system. The IAF is a system. In fact the Pakistan Defence Force IS A SYSTEM and the same can be said about the Indians. So don't look at the JF-17 in isolation or the MKIs ... ... because the PAF is not looking at the JF-17 as a stand alone aircraft.

Another fact is that the defending force does not have to be equal to the attacking force to defend successfully ... ... yes, a "weaker" in defence mode and upset a "stronger" for that is attacking. Rule of thumb is that the attacking force needs a 3 to 4 times advantage. This advantage can be numerical, technological or in tactics or combined.

the term mini awacs is misleading as no fighter can fulfill the role of awacs. the feature is known as realtime datalink between same fighter types and is not limited to su30. a single jft can guide three jfts in the area to a designated target. it has dual mode data link. other is gci link. even gripen have this ability.
