JF-17 PARTICIPATED IN RUSSIAN-PAKISTANI BILATERAL EXERCISE

According to a press release by the Russian Ministry of Defence, the JF-17 Thunder and AH-1F/S Cobra were deployed over Cherat in support of Friendship 2016, the first bilateral military exercise between Russia and Pakistan. The JF-17’s close air support (CAS) coverage came in a counterinsurgency (COIN)-related setting involving a series of relevant combat scenarios.

Notes & Comments:

Although the first bilateral exercise between Pakistan and Russia, at over two weeks, it has been a long and seemingly comprehensive in its scope. Granted, the focus is COIN capacity building, but the inclusion of Pakistani CAS assets – and that too in the midst of High Mark 2016 – was unexpected.

The presence of the AH-1F/S Cobra attack helicopter indicates the growth that Pakistan’s cross-organizational communication and co-ordination competency, which had been built since 2010 in order to raise the armed forces’ capacity for COIN operations.

Servicemen of Russia and Pakistan stormed a base of the simulated armed formation at the final stage of the Friendship-2016, Russian-Pakistani joint exercise. The stage took place at the Cherat range in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

More than 200 servicemen of special units of the Armed Force of Pakistan and motorized rifle brigade of the Southern MD.

The ground forces were covered by JF-17 Thunder and AH-1 Cobra helicopters of the Pakistani Air Force.

According to the scenario, joint groups of two countries moved to the area of simulated warfare. After the reconnaissance operation, the servicemen eliminated the simulated illegal armed formations.

The servicemen also performed combat firing at targets, which were imitating infantry, automobile vehicles and infrastructure of the simulated enemy.

For sure it will have a good impact worldwide. JFT was using Russian engines but now they are working will Russian electronic systems.

I read somewhere that the US has offered India to build F-16 or F-18 Hornet in India if they are willing to buy those planes in large enough numbers.
