JF-17 Block III's proposed AESA Radar KLJ-7A

An old article (I think form 2007 or 2008) on Russian radars but also state about the range AESA radar of F-35 170-180 Km for 3 sq. meter RCS so on the basis of this, it is safe to assume that 170 Km range of KLJ-7A is for the target having RCS of 3 sq. meter. (relevant information at page two, BTW article contain some other interesting information as well)

Sir, I don't know where you got this information from, but it is all b.s. The JSF serves as a mini-AWACS and a controller admin for a small squadrons of UAV's, it can have a plane like B1B or C-130 loaded with missiles (missile truck) and can use its radar to guide dozens of misiles to their target sent from the C-130. All of this, by staying well over a 100 miles away from the enemy jets.

It can locate a missile's (specially ballistic ones) after burn from about 600 KM away. It can direct near by ships to prepare a launch of the Standard Missiles III or IV or V to intercept the missile launch i detected. If I was to guess, the radar range on this puppy is well over 300-350 miles easy.

notice the beefed up cooling and redundant power supply i wonder if its really PESA??? then what are those beefed up for could it be a more inefficient T/R modules??


what would qualify for evidence here would picture of chinese personnels exchanging goods while giving money to the seller would do??? i bet even that would be hard to swallow by hordes of ill mannered chinese trolls here unless its approved by CCP everything else is false.

Beefed up cooling suggests AESA, environmental considerations, Aircraft ECS issues, redundant power supply maybe user requirement.

1 mile = 1.6093 KM
100 miles = 160.934 KM

BTW

170 KM = 105.633 miles
180 KM = 111.847 miles

yaar, i DO NOT KNOW Chinese so i have to rely on them what they tell me, what they say is writted. Now i get the info that it says :
It says that the radar is an upgrade to the mechanically scanned radar KLJ-7 in current JF-17, with performances comparable to F-35's
Now anyone can divide this sentence in two parts. The first one in green is a technical statement. Confirming that is is an Upgraded KLJ-7. WE know that an upgraded KLJ-7 is a KLJ-A and NOT and AESA!! AESA will be a separate radar not an upgrade of a mechanically scanned array radar!!

The second part in red is a figurative speech, a judgement, a ruling. Not a technical issue/statement. This is just a comparison being made and one can CLAIM anything. Also if the claims is true it still is that the "performance" is comparable!! Again not that it is an AESA. If that the capabilities can be similiar and if that is possible in real may be it is a Mechanical Radar with comparable performance? (as per the claim and just for debate/discussions sake ONLY) THAT still do not makes it an AESA. Unless there is something written in Chinese that was not translated and mentioned in the original post by our Chinese friend.

This is the simple point i am trying to make. I hope you understand.

It is just that the response was an bit surprising. Anyway!

The performance of KLJ7A is quite close with APG81.
I understand that. However what i was/am was confused about was KLJ7A being AESA or not.
Anyway, will you please share some details of the KLJA parameters that you think makes it similar in capability (not in functioning) to the APG81 (which is an AESA) ? Will love to read a bit more about it if that is not too much trouble for you.

Was thinking this morning that the brochure does not say Fc-1/Jf-17. ...... unless we assume that KLJ-7 is synonymous with FC-1 radar!
