For the first time in 20 years, an active antenna radar (AESA) for fighter aircraft is presented to the Zhuhai Airshow by a Chinese manufacturer.
Sa référence, le KLJ-7A . His reference, the KLJ-7A. Some of you will find it familiar and this is normal, since the fighter FC-1 / JF-17 Pakistan's air force, which is designed by the Institute 611 in Chengdu, is equipped a mechanical scanning radar known as the reference KLJ-7 V2.
In a press conference organized by the Institute NRIET ECCC group to October 31, deputy director touched briefly on this EASA radar for fighter aircraft and several radars able to track stealth aircraft.
"The KLJ-7A made its first public appearance in this living room has a combat range of 170 kilometers," says Wang Hongzhe (王宏哲), "This range is equivalent to (that of the radar) F-35, and c ' is especially made on a radar having a much smaller volume in comparison. » "
? Asked about whether the radar AESA of the last Chinese fighter J-20 is better than the latter, the deputy director of NRIET smiled: "In your opinion ...? » "
Note that the figure of 170 kilometers in range of KLJ-7A should be obtained in air-air mode, a standard target of RCS 5 m².
Given its small size (~ Ø600 mm) and its official reference, it is likely that the KLJ-7A is developed for the Block III version of JF-17, just considering replacing its current radar by an AESA radar .
If confirmed, the KLJ-7A will provide about 55% more sensing remote Pakistani aircraft upgraded, giving a tactical advantage very interesting and will allow him to use other types of long-munition scope.
We still know little about this new AESA radar in Chinese, as its weight average transmit power, MTBF or the type of materials (GaAs or GaN) MMIC used for example.
However, we know that it can track 15 targets and engage four simultaneously in air-air mode, 10 against and 2 for its mechanical scanning predecessor. The radar also has at least 11 modes including SAR imagery, Air-ground mode and Air-Mer.
In these photos taken in preview at NRIET stand, we can see three modules in the back of the radar - the food, the computer and the cooling cell. The antenna module and calculators are cooled by liquid, such as what is marked on the case.
The most onboard radar in China, whether for fighter planes and AWACS, developed by the Institute 14 (NRIET), Institute 38 or 607. Institute The first two are subsidiaries of Chinese electronics group ECCC, while the latter is a subsidiary of the AVIC aeronautics group.
Radars J-10, J-11B and J-15, for example, are designed by the NRIET, and the J-16 by the Institute 607. If the rumors are true and the new radar J-20 is actually developed the NRIET, we can probably learn during this Exhibition in Zhuhai, where the presence of J-20 is now confirmed by the army of the Chinese air .

dont play the religion card with me, it doesn't work, i dont care who or what you are.

I don't know why but it seems that generally across the board a general abrasiveness, intolerance and a "at your face" attitude seems to be the order of the day to promote one's point of view. There are more civil ways to conduct ones self in a discussion forum.

is this AESA in ready shape [tested and tried]? If it is then why we are not inducting this awesome capability in Block 2s?

what i would like to tell most of you that radar performance, maximum detection, search, track, and intercept ranges are highly subjective, and depend on environment, and target aspect. When a system comes to a theatre, such as when we inducted Grifo, it took some time to characterize the system in our environment. While FIAR did a good job in studying our sub clutter visibility and second time turn around problems prior to giving us the system, it still took a while for the system to "settle" in. Same will be the fate of whatever E-SCAN system coming to Pakistan. It will be developed, trialled, tweaked, upgraded, and will keep on growing.

If you go back sometime, i predicted that for the Block III, PAF will prefer a detection suite that comes with an integrated EW suite. This made the choice obviously NRIET, since the Selex (previously BAE Avionics in Edinburgh) is not likely to part with the Captor's integrated EW suite of EFT.

That said, PAF is ambitious enough to induct more than one AESA, whichever comes its way.

The requirement of air intercept is clearly met with KLJ7, which is a beautifully reliable system. The only weak link in the system was the Chinese TWT, which was replaced by a French tube. KLJ7 is currently one of the most reliable air intercept radar in operation in Pakistan.

With the reliability of KLJ7, and the vast numbers in operation, there is no need for fleet vide development. Only the air superiority squadrons shall require AESA.
