Japan's stealth jet prototype 'to fly this year'

America more than anyone else will try to stop Japan from making an aircraft like this

Some people might know , that Long before any one else in 1980 , Japan had made the TRON real time operating system , under pressure from America the work on TRON had to be stopped

Though ITRON is still used as the operating system of many digital electronic systems in Japan
What's this TRON system !?
well, well, well. its good Japan is trying to develop its own stealth Fighter jet. I dont understand why the U.S refused to sell F22 to Japan.
However, I think the U.S will find a way to slow down/kill this program before its takes off seriously/start real production. The U.S simply has too much to loose if Japan starts actingtoo independently/reduce its reliance on the U.S. So it will be difficult for the U.S to allow it to go on undisturbed. The U.S already covers Japan security anyway, so i dont see why Japan should be that worried of any invasion. Since the U.S has a mutual defence treaty with Japan. and Japan also has a credible/advance/capable Navy, which is among the best in the world. So even if the U.S prevents/slows down Japan from developing a stealth fighter, i dont think it will be of much difference, since it wont change much, as the U.S already provides Japan with a credible security cover from any potential attack.
Japan can't rely on US forever, in future, when China grown more power and more aggresive, Japan need her own shield ...

Come on guys, make some Gundam already, what's with this stealth aircraft BS....:enjoy:

After all the boasting, Japan's ATX turns out to be a copy of LCA Tejas. Cannot get more primitive than copying Indians.

This is gonna be the testbed of what could evolve into the real F-3 "Son of Zero", which bears resemblance
to the Northrop Grumman YF-23 Black Widow -

The current model is the precursor of 23DMU, the 24DMU appears to be the final development. Can any Japanese member clarify?

I have no doubt that Japan has the required technological base to produce the airframe, missiles, radar and other electronics for a fifth-generation fighter.

What Japan cannot do is produce the required engine. The engine problem will handicap Japanese independence with respect to building its own fighters.

Uuuuhhh...you don't seem to know Japan's prowess at jet engines. Just a hint : Japan started making reliable, proven
jet engines much before China started off...

@Nihonjin1051 :

Why did you not already inform us that the Japanese were quite advanced in turbofan design and production?

Looks like Japanese have all the technology they need to build a cutting-edge 5th generation fighter!:enjoy:

Don't be surprised if the final F-3 turns out even better than J-20 ! In all technological terms, Japan is on
par, if not ahead, of China. Even the debut flight of 23DMU demonstrator (the one we're seeing now) could be
with indigenous engines straight from the start...!

I think the two fighters are likely to be comparable.Remember the Chinese have immense experience now in building airframes, and radars/electronics from their many fighter programs like JF-17, J-10B and the J-11 series(ok the airframe design is Russian but everything else is Chinese there) Only area of weakness is engines but that will only take a matter of time to fix.

Anyway, good to hear that the Japanese are so far advanced in the military sphere.

Anyone know maximum thrust of engine/engines of this aircraft?

It is a 1/3rd scale version of the final fighter which is projected to be ready for service in the late 2020s.

The prototype will have 2 engines of 5000kg in thrust.

Dude, you comparing a low-bypass engine to powerful engine like WS-15 or the US F119. What a joke! LOL

All these powered by Japanese engines...
All low grade, low quality scale engine. And most of them have first run in 2000s while our engine WS-10 have its 1st run in 1990s.
