Well, the US Navy , pound per pound, was a noble and ferocious adversary.

Even the Russians could not attain such a feat. Afteral, in 1905 the entire Russian Baltic Fleet, which was the cream of the Imperial Russian Navy, was completely and utterly annihilated in the Battle of Tsushima Straits under the command of the great Admiral Togo Heihachiro.

Many of our boys had never seen Russians before. The aftermath was so severe , appalling that one of the aides to Admiral Togo lamented, "so many fair young Russian sailors perished , washed and consumed by the Sea of Japan."

In fact , that defeat to Japan , doomed the Czarist Romanov Dynasty. Funny that a Dynasty that stretches close to 1000 years was ushered to its total end by the " little Yellow Menace" from Japan.
