The defense of Taiwan is a scenerio that is largely in the air and at sea. Those realms are less human resouce intensive than ground forces. No reason to assume the JSDF number of personnel will fall below 200,000.
Japan refused to join the Korean War and it will do so again with Taiwan. Nobody has the stomach to fight China not even USA.
Not entirely true there were some Japanese that did serve in the Korean War in total secrecy at the time. They did mineweeping and transport landing ship operation. About 80 have died in the war.
