Japan agreed to provide Vietnam with technologies for building military ships at a meeting between their defense ministry officials on Monday.
At a meeting between Koji Yamazaki, Chief of the Self-Defense Forces's Joint Staff, and Deputy Minister of Defense Phan Van Giang in Hanoi, the two countries agreed on several collaborations in future, including shipbuilding and economic manufacturing.

They also agreed to strengthen ties between the Vietnamese Army and Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force, including more visits by the latter’s ships and aircraft to Vietnam.

Japan will also provide training in diving medicine and rescue and supply medical and rescue equipment to the Vietnamese Navy.

Vietnam asked Japan to continue training its experts in military technology, collaborate in developing strategies for its peacekeeping forces, and take in its highly-skilled workers. Japan is the largest market for Vietnamese labor with more than 80,000 going in 2019. Most of them work in seafood and food processing.

The Japanese delegation, which is on a visit to Vietnam from March 1 to 4, will also visit the 249 Brigade under the High Command of Combat Engineers and the 147 Brigade under the Naval Command.

. .
Looking forward to Vietnam's home build 10,000 tons destroyers.

. .
you mean Vietnam finally upgraded to wooden boat technology from bamboo?

. . . .
With a dozen (12) destroyers we can turn the tide in the South China Sea :)

@Indos

I dont think having destroyers is a good strategy against Chinese, building many missile boat and submarines are more effective against huge Chinese fleets.

Once we get the blueprints you can consider it as done.
What kind of ship that Japan give the ToT?

Implying got Atago class tot.
Clearly you don't know that making a hull might be the least important part in making a modern warship.:pop:
Hull is very important, but weapons and sensors cost more than the hull, what makes it modern is its weapons and sensors after all.

They still need something like frigate and corvette. Missile boat lack of defense and can't hide in the open sea, can't use hit and run tactic to defend the contested reef and small island that is far from their mainland.

"ship building" is a general statement, just like saying we will teach you how to build a larger ship, but you have to deal with all the sub systems, Japan has no right to given out anything as most of the sub systems on their ship being Yankees.

Imagine the clash of two destroyer fleets Vietnam vs. China before the coast of Indonesia!

I believe you don’t want to miss it.

We still have bad feelings against the chinese after the battles of Paracels and Spratlys.

The media says the Japanese will go the extra mile.

You need to be specific of what kind transfer viet get from japan.
and also what terms & condition, because if you get transfer of technology from foreign country, there is always terms & condition applied.

Teaching you installing bolts in a ship also categorized as Transfer of technology, and it's legal.
So, that's why you need to be specific regarding that
