The Japanese government plans to distribute 100,000 packets of instant rice to Chinese tourists, in a bid to boost its rice exports to China, Japanese media reported. The rice will be available at travel agencies in Shanghai and Beijing, electronics markets in Tokyo, and in duty-free shops at Narita Airport and Kansai International Airport.

According to Japanese media, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries believes that China is a prime destination for rice exports in the future.

One more good reason to visit Japan.

So whats the difference between Japanese rice and Chinese rice?

I feel Chinese rice is short grained and less sticky (compared to Japanese rice), but less stickier than Thai rice. But, of course, generalizations are quite hard because both nations have various types of rice and people buy according to their personal taste and use.

Edit: @jian-10 already answered it. Just noticed.

Im actually against Chinese travelling to Japan and contributing to their economy.

How can a people be so outraged by the sins of the Japanese fathers yet spend huge sums of money there? Its blatantly undermining the efforts of exerting pressure on the Japanese people to properly recognise the severity of their crimes and continued indifference to atonement.

Cultural exchanges I would encourage in order for both sides to build bridges and develop kinship but commercial tourists carrying loaded bags of over priced cosmetics and fancy toilet seats tyo bring back to the mainland makes me sick.

Whatever rice they grow there can be grown in China. The biggest difference is agricultural practices.

The Japanese have a better scientific approach to agriculture and also follow stricter growing standards, especially in regards to pesticides and chemicals.

Not counting Fukushima rice of course. Eating that will result in hair loss in small quantities. Large quantities of that and your dick will fall off.

Well Rice and Trade , a good diplomatic push for Business trade to flourish between China/Japan

No reason why the two countries cannot develop such ties considering , how wise and smart Chinese Leadership is to promote trade and peace regionally

And tremendous boost to Japanese economy if Chinese Tourist visit Japan right next door for exchange of commerce

If Japan cooperates with China on few open end items , like the uninhabited island issue or few past issues from WWar days

The two countries can certainly be Economic pillers in Asia

:omghaha:
Thank you for this extremely funny post, made my day.
OT: anything free is good:yes4: except the fukushima rice of course:D

Japanese war crimes are some of the worst that has been committed in WW2 but I think Japan has repented for it's actions, so forgive them and move forward for a better friendly future.

Japanese rice is short grain and more glutinous/sticky, it's a bit different than the longer grain rice eaten by Chinese. Are they trying to unload their Fukushima stockpile? heh
OMG....
have u ever had Chinese food in China?
Do u know China's most popular rice from Northeast China is short grain?
Long grain rice is cheap.

Northern and Eastern China traditionally eat short-grain rice, similar to Korea and Japan. This type of rice is called japonica, but despite the name it originates from China, not Japan (that said, in most of Northern China, wheat noodles and mantou are more common than rice).

In Southern China people eat long grain rice, same as Southeast Asia. This kind of rice is called Indica. Despite the name, I read that it originates from South China, not India. I think the specific basmati rice strain developed in India though, not too sure.

Basically, japonica rice was traditionally grown and consumed primarily in Eastern and Northern Chinese provinces, while indica rice was dominant in the Southern Chinese provinces.

Long-grain rice (indica) is less sticky than short-grain (but Thai Jasmine rice is quite sticky though). Long-grain rice, the grains are long:

Short grain rice (japonica). The grains are more rotund, it is more sticky:
