Omgawd, that Mangalore-Trivandrum corridor. DSI willing, I will see it in Kottayam one day.

.
Is patna kolkata even economically feasible ? I find it hard to believe.

Not at this juncture. JICA made the prudent call here. The large majority of other routes are not so feasible from ROI perspective....they will have to wait till their economies grow some more.

Immediate follow on project for this one should be an extension to Pune...and maybe BLR-Chennai and Delhi - Punjab depending on funding/detailed fiscal analysis.

Rest of the areas should be DFC and conventional 200 km/hr focused.

.
actually it is.
as i said business travellers who commute frequently need an alternate to airlines.
so on relatively short distances if time of travel on end to end basis is same for air and railways travel with fare being attractive, HST becomes attractive option.
However the idea is to have all year round high occupancy to have a steady stream of revenue going.
And most of the airports are located far from the city...Take for example Bangalore it take an hour to travel to the city in peak traffic!!!
In the end...time of travel will be more or less equal to airlines!!
