Japan Plans to Defend South Korea

That's not the question, don't dodge the question, do Germans also need to remember how "linked" they were with France, Austria, Russia and co?

What the Germans say is irrelevant. Japan is not Germany. We are Japanese. Period. :)

It is none of our business, but we must say it, it turns out even Americans have to say or even do something, as evident by the Cuban missile crisis.

It is none of Japan's business how much we spend on defence, and yet, the comments are none stop.

Its none of your business period. What the South Koreans desire is their own, just as South Korea, Japan and US have desired to form a stronger strategic military cohesive force to meet the threat of destabilizing forces like North Korea.

China should not worry, as it is not seen as a 'destabilizing' force in Northeast Asia. So, the over-reaction is utterly unnecessary.

Tell me how many AH-1 Cobras are with Japan and Korea have and why they don't give it to PAA for Free?

I was under the impression that the Pakistan Air Force and Army already operate the AH-1. Also, is not the Pakistan Army planning to acquire the Chinese Z-10?

That says it all. You gave me a long answer on something I didn't ask for, but then didn't say anything regarding the real controversy.

BTW, do you write speeches for Obama?

What over reaction? The over reaction would be to threaten to nuke the world if it happened like Kennedy. I always said none of our business, why are you repeating it.

This is a very good initiative by Japan, Though to be honest i must South Koreans must be fuming to even hear such a news. To be fair, S.koreans still consider Japan as their main ennemy/rival/threat, even more than North Korea, which is rather strange/weird. During my stays in Korea i interacted with many Korean friends/citizens and found out that they both admire Japan as a role model and hate Japan with passion at the same time. Same with Vietnamese i have met here in U.K they bhave similar views towards China, its a love-hate relationship. What surprised me most was that Koreans still view Japan and everything Japan does as a threat to them or geared towards them, this makes rapproachment very difficult for Japan(though Japan doesnt hold such a hostile view towards Korea). Japan has to be really thankful to the U.S since its the U.S who is pressuring S.korea to mend ties with Japan and stay clear of China, Without the U.S, im 100% sure Seoul would have been allies with China against Japan long ago. The U.S is still a force for stability in Asia IMO.:usflag: S.korea has to mend its ties with Japan and forget about the past, same with Vietnam towards China, Pakistan towards India etc etc. These Asian countries have too much beef with each other.......jeez....... :disagree: But at least East Asians dont allow their disputes to get in the way of economic intergration/trade unlike South Asian countries who are paranoid with each other.:(

Wow an Interesting article, it's good to think outside the box and see things at a different perspective.

The trend is obvious, China-SK getting closer, China-NK getting tricky, NK angry at SK & Japan as usual, Japan continue to antagonize all three. So in some way it will look like China and SK on one side, vs NK, and vs Japan.

Back to topic, I think this is a correct move from Japan's POV. It helps Japan to pull SK away from rival China, helps ally US in tightening up the US-JP-SK pact, and maintain a tension on the peninsula. However while seeing it as a sincerity gift, SK is likely to take it cautiously, on preconditions that it wouldn't infuriate nationalistic emotion against Japan, and wouldn't jeopardize relationship with China.

China would welcome any constructive move to promote stability in the region, whether it's by Japan or any country.

The title is misleading.
Some people like to exaggerate the North Korea's missile capability and play moral high ground (for geo-political reason) to protein other 'weaker' countries. Some powerful western nations have been doing this for quite some time now :usflag::china:...

The thing with South Asia is different. Pakistan and India are at similar development stages, so while India is bigger, it is not more developed. Both Korea and Japan are developed, no developed country has ever been attacked.

Besides that, the Indian attitude is lacking in China is also for the same reason, our Indian friends here can be dismissive towards Pakistan, but China cannot do the same with Japan or Korea as they are both in the developed world and Japan even in the G7.

The China-Japan-South Korea dynamic is very different to the Pakistan-India dynamic.

Also letting things go, I have said it a hundred times, Japan never let it go. Abe blatantly spoke in favor of revisionism, Japanese right wing wants to re-militarize, which is fine in itself, but they want to deny war crimes, and putting war criminals into shrines that the PM visits.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/03/opinion/mr-abes-dangerous-revisionism.html?_r=0

This is like Himmler is put into a temple and Merkel goes to visit, which they actually did do something similar. That Kenji Doihara belongs in the depth of hell and yet he's honored in a shrine.

Kenji Doihara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's easy to look at this as China and Korea needs to move on, but when a nation constantly brings up the issues of war crimes, revisionism, and even honoring criminals, who's really not moved on.

I am very proud of our Japanese friends, but your plain is a little castrated. Why Japs should defend S.K. Your father conquered them.

Invading S.K. is for us agreeable, at least we have only defence treaty with N.K. not S.K. That is not our problem.

Abe has yet to visit Yasukuni this year, you should note that. As for Japanese defense normalization, I think its a wee bit long overdue. Don't you think?

The Japanese government and the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) are currently discussing the idea of including a provision about protecting South Korean Aegis destroyers in a revised version of the Self-Defense Forces Law, which will be submitted to the regular session of the Japanese Diet, newspaper reports indicate....

South Korea uses the Aegis destroyers to monitor ballistic missile launches by North Korea.

As a specific example of what such a revision might mean, the Japanese government explained that Japan could defend American Aegis destroyers off the coast of Japan that can detect ballistic missiles launches in North Korea.

If the Japanese government’s plan takes effect, the JSDF would be responsible for protecting not only US vessels, but any vessels that are contributing to the defense of Japan.

The AEGIS Destroyers or any AEGIS system is only valuable to Japan if they are integrated into a Japanese Air Defense Central Command.

Any war with N. Korea for Japan would be an Air War. Take out N. Korean missiles Japan will escape unscratched, relatively.

In the even of war all S. Korean Military assets will be under the control of the US. So... no such thing as S. Korean AEGIS Destroyers.

It's nobody's business what Japan's plans are for the military, that's Japan's decision, building up the military doesn't necessarily mean war, in fact no military doesn't mean peace. I have no problems with it, but as I have said before, we increase the budget, Japan needs to make a thing out of it, and we need to do the same with Japan. That's just how politics works.

I have no problems with any of that.

Abe visiting the Yasukuni shrine, he did visit it, and even when he didn't he still sent a donation. I know it seems like I'm overacting, but the fact is if he made an announcement that he is only there for the soldiers that were mislead into committing crimes against humanity and who died fighting for their country, I be fine with him even visiting it.

He didn't.

Us going back and forth isn't very fun, so I'll ask this, Kenji Dorihara, Iwani Matsui, are they not a despicable human beings? Am I wrong to say they don't belong in there, it's not only an insult to China, but also to the Japanese soldiers, who are now being lowered to their level, just by their presence.
