Japan Mobilizes Military to Djibouti Military Base !

In sense ISIS just did a gravevmistake by awakening a sleeping monster

That they did, my friend. That they did. By executing those 2 civilians, they angered the entire Military Establishment and made a large majority of our people to pursue 'active' policy against terrorism.

The deaths of Goto and Yukawa were not in vain.

Japan's Defense Minister, General Nakatani visits Japanese Military Base in Djibouti.

The JMSDF's Destroyer Escort Fleet in the Horn of Africa:

. . .
world should make a coalition to attack ISIS ... all forces Japan , Nato , US , India ... they should send the troops into Iraq .... those ISIS bastards will not finish by just Air Strikes ..

on topic .... what is the strategic important of this base is ?

I wish Pakistani politicians care to equip Pakistan infantry, the same way.

Is this move against ISIS, then this is good.

Counter piracy? Well, if that's the case, this doesn't seem too odd.

Its a naval base that has been expanded to accommodate air and ground forces. From this base Japan can conduct anti-piracy patrols, as well as anti-terror patrol and exercises. Its a staging point.

What is this American B grade army.

Japan is on par with the US in everything they do, in some respects they are even ahead of us. Japan just doesn't flex its massive muscles too much, hence why they are perceived as a militarily weak nation. They aren't, not at all. This is the world's second leading Naval power, an electronic warfare wizard, their aircraft, tanks, guns and artillery are amazing. Their ships equal to or better than ours, their subs the best in their class. Even in the space realm does japan match the US. They make their own missiles, from anti-air to anti-tank and ship, they do a lot on their own.

Many of our best systems, such as the SM-6, are joint developed by Japan and the US, though we both have our own projects too. That's how much the US respects Japan's defense industry! Japan is building its own 5th generation aircraft, without our help, that alone should demonstrate their expertise. Their rocket and missile programs actually helped start our own back during the 50s, with some of their scientists working for the US, that they remain a space power is no surprise.

B grade army? Not by a long shot. The only knock against Japan, and the reason I would given them an A- is their lack of real-world experience. This is a very, very strong military. They've just never needed to validate their strength to others.\

Also, @Nihonjin1051 I haven't yet commented on the news itself, so I'll do that now. This is a very welcomed initiative! Japan is a proven stabilizing force, no matter where it is in the world. Its leaders are prudent, unwilling to act on emotions, and wont make the mistakes we too often have. Good to see Japan join the likes of the US and China in Africa. May our continued partnership bring peace, stability and prosperity to the region and beyond. Question though. What's the force being sent?

I was thinking more...JDAM strike... ;)

As much as I would like to see this be Japan's response, let your big brother continue to handle this. No need to enter into the hornets nest, eyes full of rage and a heart filled with revenge. That will lead to further unintended and horrific consequences for Japan. One act against ISIS and the whole world of militants will turn their gaze towards you, you don't need that... you don't want that. We are used to making mistakes, we will fight this battle for you. Making and cleaning up mistakes is what the US does best. No need to act rash, continue with your path of peace.

Sorry for the late reply bro just got on-line ... :-)

Great pics man! If Tokyo has accumulated enough political willingness then I am sure these boys based at Djibouti will revenge Goto and Yugawa. Especially Kenjo Goto a good man that spent his life trying to get the voices of the poor and sufferings heard by people.

JSDF is probably the one of the most expensive (defense spend per military personnel even higher than that of US) best equipped and best trained military force. The relatively smaller scale (in terms of personnel) and pacifist constitution (hence low profile) may give outsiders a wrong impression that it is "weak". Even on size JMSDF has bigger surface fleet than Uk and France combined.

About ISIS I think Sevnsonov is right. US should definitely lead the effort to deal with ISIS. Other countries that are already affected by terrorism may participate and that doesn't include Japan. It's better for Japan ton stay safe and not to get into a mess which hasn't affected Japan by large except for the 2 civilians killed.

Japan should use this event to make changes in the pacifist constitution. Public opinion will support.
