Japan - India to build 7 smart cities in India

The government has approved Rs. 17,500 crore ($3.24 billion) for the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) project, which is estimated to cost around $100 billion overall, :woot: minister of state for commerce and industry D Purandeswari said Wednesday.

The minister said the government has approved the financial assistance at an average of Rs.2,500 crore (US $ 500 million) per city :woot:, subject to a ceiling of Rs.3,000 crore per city(US $ 600 million), for the development of the seven DMIC industrial cities in the first phase.

In addition, the Japanese government has also announced financial support of US $ 4.5 billion for the DMIC project in the first phase,
Purandeswari said in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.

According to the government estimates, the industrial cities developed along the corridor are expected to attract an investment of $90-100 billion over the next 30 years.

In the first phase of the project, seven industrial cities are planned. These are Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region, Uttar Pradesh; Manesar-Bawal Investment Region, Haryana; Khushkhera-Bhiwadi-Neemrana Investment Region, Rajasthan; Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow Investment Region, Madhya Pradesh; Ahmedabad-Dholera Investment Region, Gujarat; Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Park city near Aurangabad, Maharashtra; and Dighi Port Industrial Area, Maharashtra.

"The cities would be launched with the development of townships of 25-50 sq km which are envisaged to be completed by the end of 2019," the minister said.

Arrangement of land for the project is the responsibilities of the state governments.

According to the minister, the process of land acquisition/ land procurement is in progress in Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, and master planning has started in Uttar Pradesh.

Three airports are also planned to be developed under the DMIC project.
The airports are: International Airport in Ahmedabad-Dholera Investment Region in Gujarat; Airport near Jodhpur in Rajasthan; and Aerotropolis in Alwar District, Rajasthan.

its all part of the new cold war, for sure Japan and China are two great enemies. and with China's tilt towards Pakistan, naturally
Japan will counter it through India.

Japan had pledged to invest in DMIC way back in 2007,it's nothing like cold war.

Its just business.

If the Japanese would not see any opportunities to get profits from their investments, they would not do it.

True but Japan also would like a strong India to counter China.

It is in Japan's interest for India to be as strong as possible to counter China.

If Japan had not been shackled by the Americans and had a comprehensive defence industry then you can be sure that they would have sold the Indians anything they wanted, bar nuclear weapons.

Japanese investment and help will help India immensely.

They have huge experience of handling and completing enormous infra projects on time.

The Indian companies which will enter JV with the Japanese companies for completing these 7 cities and projects will learn lot
