Five suspected terrorists killed in encounter with Army, police in J&K



Five suspected terrorists were killed in an encounter with personnel of the Army's 21 Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the early hours of today, a Defence spokesman said today.

Srinagar-based Defence spokesperson Lt Col J S Brar said that, based on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area of Khurmur forests, Handwara, in the frontier Kupwara district of North Kashmir, a joint operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifles and the J&K Police.

“They were asked to surrender, however, they opened fire resulting in an intense fire fight. In the ensuing encounter, five terrorists were killed," Lt. Col. Brar said.

According to him, a jawan of the 21 Rashtriya Rifles was slightly injured in the incident. The police were ascertaining the identity of those killed, he added.

this a hole terrorist should have saved their life by running back to their home in Pakistan rather than stay and fight a large regurl army like the IA. Its because of these fools we have to have a large presence of our forces in Kashmir, disrupting the normal life with rigorus checks.

Who cares as long as our new Army recruits get free target practice and hone their skills, get to know their rifle better, see how it shoots, measure its accuracy, you know the regular soldier stuff.

...and they get to keep and boost their 'hunt count'...all for free.

I have to accept that part of knowing the rifles because the AK's recently bought from Bulgaria are good weapons but the ammunition provided by the Ordenance Factrys do not give the mussel velocity and have an offset of aroud 1 feet at 100 yards from the target.

I know the RR use AK 47's 84mm Gustav's, SVD's, etc. but why have they never been equipped with flamethrowers to flush terrorists out of their hiding places?

Instead of long gun battles, they could simply surround the terrorists, pin them with covering fire, then burn them out.
