Cheng, you can't tell me that US government and military officials don't understand the reasons behind why Pakistan arrested an individual who was involved in unsanctioned cooperation with a foreign intelligence agency - the US herself would take a very, very poor view of such cooperation and would likely act just as harshly.Of course. Pakistan is perfectly within its rights to do so. And benefit from the pros, but also suffer the cons.
The only reason this is being used to malign Pakistan is because the US intelligence community understands that Shakil Afridi provided important help and wants to 'free their man'. Making this show of support helps the US in future intelligence operations (in Pakistan or elsewhere in the world) because they can point out to future moles/recruits taking major risks that 'the US doesn't forget those who help her'.
