But there's a slightly less obvious reason: the culture. By culture, I don't mean heritage or traditions. I mean sociological factors: the strange relationship between effort and reward, the absurd definitions of excellence (mediocre = excellent), the power dynamics, etc.

Anybody with a functioning brain who wants to excel simply NEEDS to leave.

For what PA has achieved they have the full support of the people of Pakistan. Just look at the track record of Pakistan army , the challenges it has over come, the cheap and corrupt governments they have had to deal with, the infrastructure they have helped build and the security they have provided is just incredible. Just 75 years ago we didn't even have a proper military and our first government sat on pavement in Karachi. PA was set up and given a mission and it is truly the only institution that selflessly delivered on it's promises and sacrificed themselves for the love of the nation. Through their grit and determination they have made Pakistan army one of the greatest fighting machines in the world and per dollar we are number one in the world. In today's world economy and military power go hand in hand, that's why military should be partners in government and I reinstate my viewpoint the president of Pakistan should be a Pakistani general who oversees the government.
