ITALY APPROVED $762 M IN ARMS SALES TO PAKISTAN IN 2018

The main options were the M-346, L-15, and T-50. It's possible, however unlikely, that the Italian gov't agreed to release a credit line for the M-346, in which case such a purchase is doable. But in any case, LIFT is on the cards for the time being (unless the PAF again decides to change course).

It may be like we still have time to bring a LIFT from abroad especially in regard to working of fully capable Radar along with data link; as we will be progressing towards 4.5++ and then NxGF/FGF Azm. May be the reason where PAF will take some time & explore options beside exhausting all the areas before making final decision.

Why PAF did, t consider to get even a dozen of second hand [emoji113] eurofighters to counter 36 Rafales ? I mean this aircraft even in small numbers could give technological parity with india [emoji1128]

Very expensive platform and not feasible if procured in small numbers.

I mean they really are the only country in Western Europe actively pursuing arms deals with us, who knows for how much longer tho.

Here are my two cents. Each European country - or any country for that matter - seeks to establish its own defence sector market and customers. French have very much established themselves in India. In fact, they have all but sold their foreign policy in India's favor so long India keeps buying their fighters and submarines. Italians don't have big market compared to the likes of France but Pakistan has been an old customer. They'll continue to sell us defence items so long India doesn't end up buying items worth billions of dollars from them. Then we might see policy shift there as well.

This is really frustrating. PAF should seriously consider EFT. If the EFTs don't fit in PAF's combat philosophy then maybe its time to review the philosophy. Barring financial resources, any combat & arms procurement/acquisition policy/philosophy that is unable to incorporate advance technologies are essentially outdated viewpoints, and not adopting and adapting to new technologies is suicide.

As much as we love and respect our Turkish brothers, the TAI Hürjet is still something on paper. Its going to be years before it make its first flight and enters into service. Last I heard there were talks of its first flight in the Summer of 2022 - that is if there aren't any snags.

I've seen YAK-130 in action, and it seems like a good Trainer/Jet, but I think i'll still the Leonardo M-346 has the edge.

Pakistan clearly seems to be building a good relationship with Italy, and why not. Their economy is struggling and if they can make a quick buck out of Pakistan, why shouldn't we reap the benefits that comes with it.

Now I know we're most certainly going to go with the Chinese AESA Radar for the JF-17, but does anyone know if Leonardo's Vixen 1000E was ever in contention or considered.

They (Leonardo) did display it during the IDEAS a couple of years back.

A senior member here said that PAF has gone for an in house solution for radar which involved major help from outside. Maybe a big chunk of 762 mil$ went there.

Expensive, more expensive in regard to new setup, new induction training, familiarity, infrastructure to support and above all, when there are couple of more countries involved in a project like EFT, one should expect lot of opposition in regard to sale of weapons to Pakistan. I don't French agreeing to release any offensive weapon with EFT to Pakistan especially since they are all in to please India and that's for money in fact.

EFT minus Meteor is not so plausible.

So what does that mean? Have we been jerking the Chinese around to build us a AESA while we go off looking at other options.

And with all due respect to the Senior Member on PDF, what does a In House Solution mean?

1. We get ToT for the Vixen1000E or any other Radar.
2. We have Joint Venture with Leonardo to help us build our own based on their techn...experience.

Either way, point #1 seems highly unlikely and point #2 seems impossible as it would take years (give or take) of testing.

The US $762 Million just happened barely a year back & the Block III is apparently in its final stages.

I'm also concerned/curious to know how the Chinese would feel about a Western Radar on the JF-17. Do they have a say, even if they themselves aren't operating the Type?
