What's new

Italian Puma 6X6 for Pakistan.

If these are for FC , If these can take bullets up to .50cal , and if these can take 5Kg+ IED , I am all good and happy......... They are much better from those death trap toyoto trucks ,,,,,,,,
I hope and Pray for "New , Best , Advance , Safe " Armored Vehicles for all of our forces but for that we need economy and lot of R&D and infrastructure . So until that day come , these small steps are better ......

Refurbished as new since this is an Armoured Personnel Carrier...so it does not make much difference. Much better than those Toyota trucks / pickups.
Fully agree , those trucks are death traps man........

We don't need the new toys with latest satellite links and other fancy stuff...all we need is some good protection for our soldiers and since each weighs 8 tonnes so it means these have some heavy armour that can take bullets, RPGs and some IEDs. 6x6 means it can go into rough terrain and wheeled means it will be faster on roads and can enter the cities without damaging the roads... and refurbished means we are getting these at a fraction of the cost of the new and even cheaper than our in-house developed APCs... So I'm really happy with this purchase.

he Italian Puma (to not mismatch with the German IFV) is in effect the lightest in the series of wheeled armored fighting vehicles (AFV) of the Italian Army. The AFV category covers both tracked and wheeled vehicles, and for the latter it all but replaced the old-fashioned “armored car”. The term has no relevance today whatsoever, as modern AFVs are conceived from the bottom up as military vehicles and broke all links with the civilian market but some mechanical parts, notably of the engine, saving costs. Such was the Fiat-Iveco Puma, a family of 4×4, 6×6 vehicles designed to complement the new Centauro wheeled tank as Italian Army’s Cavalry Regiments and some Infantry regiments as well for reconnaissance.

According to Exim Trade (Dated: March 2018), Pakistan is getting 79 refurbished Puma 6X6 from Italy.
Despite having a couple of misspellings, it is quite evident that this is Puma 6X6.

The Puma family of light armoured vehicles have low silhouettes and are available in 4x4 or 6x6 versions. The hull is made of all welded steel armour providing protection from small arms and shell splinters.

The centrally located commander’s cupola can be fitted with a machine gun up to a 12.7mm. The hull has been designed to accept add-on armour to provide increased protection. The Puma vehicles are powered by an Iveco 132 kW four-cylinder engine with a turbo-intercooler coupled to a 5 speed Renk automatic transmission.

Output from the gearbox passes through a transfer box to front and rear differentials. The vehicle has power assisted steering to the front axle on the 4x4 and to the two front axles on the 6x6. Powered assisted disc brakes are fitted in all wheels.

The Puma is equipped with air-conditioning, heating, a pressurised NBC system, an engine compartment fire protection system (both automatic and manual) and a winch for self-recovery (electric on the 4x4 and hydraulic on the 6x6). The 4x4 PUMA carries four and the 6x6 carries seven personnel (including driver). All vehicle types have 2 rows of three Galix smoke dischargers.

The vehicle is configured so that additional weapon systems can be fitted. These include anti-tank systems (Milan or Panzerfaust), a 60 mm mortar, a crew machine gun and a 40 mm grenade launcher (individual weapon version). The Pumas are fitted with a laser warning system, automatic smoke grenade launchers and automatic fire protection system in the crew compartment. The Puma can be operated with the driver under armour using three day periscopes and night vision is provided by a light intensification device (IL). The vehicle is able to accommodate a number of different radio systems linked to three antennas. The Puma can be transported by a CH47C helicopter or a transport aircraft.
