What's new

It is time to learn Chinese

But are you learning the tones, or can you even tell these tones apart? Most of us Indo-European language speakers and Altaic language speakers lack the tone gene to discern tones, so we will never get it properly when picking it up as adult.

Just stick to English and you will be fine.

lol ..I was just joking. btw, is Korean an Indo-European language? I always thought it was akin to Chinese maybe only a little bit easier.

Korean is an Altaic language, similar to Mongolian, Turkic, and Siberian. It is technically a Siberian branch, similar to Evenki. Hence the nickname for Korean in Japanese rightwinger is "Southern Evenki".

Korean is completely unrelated to Chinese languages, even more distant from Chinese languages than English is to Chinese languages.

I'm in the process of learning Chinese- chinthiye, minthiye, chowthiye, xiye xiye, laofo, lao kung, sifu, wa ai ni, ni hao, po hao, chiba, thuz, mayeli, ta huz, liao, poly.

I think most of your pinyin (pronounciation) are wrong.

chinthiye = jin tian = today
minthiye = ming tian = tomorrow
xiye xiye = xie xie = thank you
sifu = shi fu = teacher, mentor
nihao = how are you ( correct )
...
Anyway, keep it up!

That is still being debated.

How is Korean closer to English or any Germanic languages than Chinese to English? Korean does not even share the sentence structure like Chinese share with Germanic languages like SVO.

There has been much progress in linguistics since the fall of Soviet Union and the Siberian languages became available to researchers. The closest kin to Korean is Evenki of Northern/Arctic Siberia.

I said Chinese languages were closer to English than to Korean.

English <<<< Chinese >>>>>>>>>>>> Korean

Correct. Chinese is closer to English, German and other useful languages than Korean is and there's no point in learning Korean.

Chinese is the only four-tone language and a major one in the world,do not close to any other language in barbarian always- simple-tones.

at the moment china is quite ahead of india , compare their economies with similar populations , compare their gdp per capita , china still grew fast in 2011 i no as turkey was 2nd fastest growing economy in 2011 with 8.5% and china was first but still both india and chinas gdp per capita is really low and theirs so many billionaires in india thats theirs extremely poor people the middle class is poor , also just check turkeys east parts and west , west e.g istanbul has one of the world most billionaires 4th i think middle class is good very good lifestyle ( i saw that personally i live in london and most of their lifestyle is much better as life here is much more expensive compared to income ) so both countries got a long way to go in terms of personal life quality , slums etc

And what it has to do with Chinese Language.

Mother-mama
Father-baba
Sister-jiejie
Brother-'gege' for older or 'didi' for younger or 'xiongdi' for both
The four-tone is more important, otherwise mandarin really make no sense.

there's no point in learning Korean.

1. Music Industry : Due to the complete Korean dominance in the music industry in East Asia, you need to speak Korean to be an idol singer because all the back staff, such as dance trainers, vocal trainers, song writers, clothing designers, are Korean. This is why there has been an explosion of Korean speakers in Japan and Taiwan's music industry, and China's going through a similar phase.

2 Employment with CIA : Korean is a mission critical language at CIA and the US military which run language schools.

CIA visits Eastern to explain career opportunities to students - News - The Eastern Progress - Eastern Kentucky University

You must be on the level to teach that language at college level. The needed languages are Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Pashto, Dari, Somali, Russian, Kurdish, Turkish, Urdu and Indonesian to name a few “mission critical” languages.

3. Employment with PLA and Chinese intelligence : Likewise Korean is a mission critical language for the PLA and Chinese intelligence services, as intelligence operations in North Korea and the ability of PLA officers to speak to North Korean counter parts in the event of a "war" is critical for China's national interest. For example, Zhang Dejiang, the current vice premier, was appointed to his position because he speaks fluent Korean and CCP needed a Korean speaker because North Korean issue is of the highest importance to the CCP leadership.

Generally, Chinese government sends state-sponsored students to North Korea, while private-funded language students who hope to seek employment with Korean companies come to the ROK.

u CAN cheat the non-asians, but you cant cheat japanese and chinese. we know that your language has 75% words originated from Chinese, you called them 漢字詞。 without these words from Chinese, you can not express yourself. The words like 대학，대사관，학생，교수，대한민국。Korean words are very much similar with Chinese pinyin. this is your innovation.

i use those words fairly often, although it is hard to describe how to say it. its better to look up some pinyin website that also has pronunciation samples.

yes, Chinese are far from Korean, but you are close to Chinese. Pls delete all the 漢字詞 in your language.
