PAF has been flying JF-17's in a maritime role for quite a while. Pakistan Navy already has an Air Arm. It already flies several fixed wing aircraft. Pakistan Navy also already has an airbase, Mehran Airbase. So how long will we keep relegating the maritime role to PAF?

this is a topic of disussion in india and pakistan, while indian naylst believe that duplication increases cost and we need a joint chief of armed forces to co ordinate activites between forces pakistan already has such a setup...
i would believe that as long as PAF operating air arm is cheaper PAF should operate them butt PAF needs to expand inorder to tackle both the In and IAF

But PAF won't be able to perform Naval operations as effectively as Navy itself. If Navy flies its own fighters, it will be able to coordinate and execute operations better.

PAF and navy are small in size and should be merged. Their capabilities can support both wings. Both have good radars and other facilities which can complement each other very well.

I'm not sure if it would be better whether PAF had control of JF17 maritime role or PN. What I would like to see is for PAC to start working on the possibility of conformal fuel tanks for the JF17.

The conformal fuel tanks would help JF17 in maritime strike role immensely. It would free up the hard points to carry more antiship missiles while also increasing the range. The conformal fuel tanks along with a 800litre centerline fuel tank should enable JF17 to have a big enough combat radius to cover Pakistan's territorial waters.

thunder would need a better engine too if that is ti happen, RD 93MA should be good enough

I don't think you can carry more than 2 AShMs on JF-17 conformal fuel tanks or not. Besides conformal fuel tanks cannot be dumped and effect a plane's dogfighting capability.

Why do you think that?o_O

Would the Navy then also have to get their own AEW/AWACS, set up a air academy to train fast jet pilots and buy their own trainers etc? Or would it be cheaper and more effective to improve the coordination between the PN and PAF for combined operations?

Unless Navy establishes its own carrier forces (something I am an advocate of); no.

It should be 10 years ago .also they neex beavy fighters at least 12 to 18

PAF have already dedicated squadron for maritime role may be in future they place under navy command.

Hi,

If you are carrying two C802's---then you are not going in for a dog fight---. You are on a one way ticket to launch those missile at the enemy ship---and if lucky---you may get back.

Hi,

You are right---.

Pak navy should have at least 2 designated sqdrn's of aircraft in its air wing as of now @ Mehran AFB---and 3 more sqdrn's in the future at Pasni under its command and control---.

Always remember that the Paf had shown a treasonous attitude towards the army and the navy in the past---.
