What I really loved about the city was how it was a Muslim majority city, but completely free and European in culture. People wore what they liked, went where they wanted, no judgement, no staring, women and children were facilitated everywhere.

This is not unique to Istanbul actually, Turkey is secular after all, Izmir is even more liberal.

Visited the city last year, its a gorgeous place, if i had to live in Turkey i would choose Izmir for less stress and traffic, even thought i love Istanbul.

Constantinople is one of the many historic names of the city and I don’t get why you should get angry if someone uses it or not. Let’s leave those butt hurt Turkophobes and their unhealthy ideas about the city aside. No matter what they call the city it will never be their again so who cares?


Constantinople for me as a person who loves history is a very beautiful name of the city which Emperor Constantine the Great chose as the new capital of the Roman Empire- probably the greates Empire to ever exist.
It served as a Roman Capital and a center of the Mediterranean/Western world for thousands of years after that.
Let’s not forget that after Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered the city he made it his capital, he declared himself as a Kaiser-i Rum / Roman Caesar and that one of the names for the city up until the Turkish language and name reforms of Ataturk was Konstantiniyye.

Istanbul (a name of greek origin too) was officially named that way long after 1453 in 1928 or something.
