Many eastern Chinese cities and provinces have GDP per capita over 20000 or even 30000 dollars, the reason China's overall per capita GDP is only around 10000 dollars is the sheer size of the population, one fifth of whole humanity, no one had never done this feat of making these many people live a decently wealthy life, and also the fact that China has vast barren uninhibited lands in Xinjiang, Tibet and Inner Mongolia where the living conditions are relatively much worse off than east part of China due to the harsh enviornment.

China's PPP and Nominal per capita are 5 times lesser than US. Overall does not matter. India's economy is now equal to UK and France but its per capita is even lower than african countries and is one of the poorest countries. Income levels are determined by per capita not by overall economy.

In PPP China has long passed US and stays as the world number one economy for years, do you believe now China is world number one economy by a big margin? Doesn't feel like it. Almost all countries still believe US the biggest and China the second biggest.

PPP is better for wealth (individual/percapita) indicator.
