Israeli FM Invites Egyptian President to Visit Jerusalem

08 : 54 PM - 28/08/2012
Occupied Jerusalem-Aug28(BNA)Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman today invited Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi to visit Jerusalem as a guest of the Israeli president.

Addressing a legal conference, he said he was so delighted to hear President Mursi reaffirm commitment to Camp David Peace Treaty with Israel, in reference to a TV interview with President Mursi.
Lieberman expressed the hope to see the Egyptian president received Israeli representatives and give interviews to the Israeli media. The Hebrew State voiced deep concerns over the potential detrimental impact of the growing clout of Muslim Brotherhood on the future of the 1979 Camp David Peace Treaty with Egypt.

Dignity is a bless, right agentny17 ? Morsi going to Jerusalem is an embedded recognition of it as capital of Israel. Believe me, treason is such a base thing, very base.
Is it ? I had no clue. Former president Mubarak use to meet other presidents in Sharm El Sheikh. It didn't mean that it was the Capital of Egypt. Heck, President Sadat gave a speech in the Knesset which is located in Jerusalem, and Egypt still doesn't recognize Jerusalem as a capital of Israel.

Better than conflict. let the grudge go and make peace rather than confrontation. Egypt needs to focus on Economics and infastructures.

The important part here isn't the visit, it is the place. Morsi making an offical visit to Jerusalem would be considered as recognition of Jerusalem as capital city of Israel which whole world disagrees on.

The whole world except Mitt Romney and Israelis.

Mursi should tell them that either it will be in Tel Aviv or they can shove it.

It's more than impossible for him to visit Israel, just impossible for many reasons, and the most simple one, Morsi himself won't do it. Most Egyptians would be so ashamed of agentny17's respose, and even I am ashamed of such a response.

Oh, yes it is. Politicians do it because they are simply Politicians and it's politics, it happened in a different era for different reasons under different conditions for different goals! but when a Muslim, an Egyptian and an Arab ordinary person loves to see it, it's disgusting.

Well, it doesn't have to be Jerusalem then. But i am not against and Egyptian president going to Israel, i am all for it matter of fact!!

One of Morsi's first destinations should be Turkey, since this is the dawn of new era of Turkish-Egyptian relations.

Also Qudus bears a very symbolic value. Visiting Israel will be a big step in the wrong direction for sure.

I am very surprised Morsi didn't visit Turkey yet. Both ruling parties in both countries seem very close. It will happen soon, i am sure!!

I think going to Tel-Aviv instead of Al-Qudus would be a smarter move, if he even goes to Israel. That is a big IF. Even former president Mubarak who was somewhat close to Israel didn't go to Israel once in his 30 years presidency in any official visits.

If Morsi and his team goes to Tel-Aviv that will only make things worse. Egypt must show its teeth against rogue states. You have just elected your first democratic president. This is a big step in the right direction, visiting Israel will make him very unpopular, especially in a time when Turkey and Israel have cut their relations. Egypt needs to follow Turkey and show Israel that they are not at liberty to act like they please, that there are consequences to their wrong policies in Gaza. When you visit Israel, you indirectly support their conduct against Palestinians. Sooner or later, Israel will have to answer for their crimes in Gaza, but that will only happen if great countries like Egypt and Turkey makes pressure. There is an increasing pressure from Turkey, Misr should follow suit.
