Israeli army says Gaza crisis a fake
Big News Network (UPI)
Monday 21st January, 2008

The Israeli army has scotched worldwide news coverage that the Gaza Strip is undergoing a humanitarian crisis.

Despite major concerns being raised by relief organizations, including the United Nations, that a major crisis was unfolding in Gaza, an Israel Defense Forces spokesman says the publicity is all spin.

"There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza,"
a military official told Ynet news on Sunday night.

"Even today, Israel is behind 70% of the power supply to Gaza, and therefore any claim to the effect that there are electricity problems in Gaza is unfounded," he said. "These are media spins by interested parties. We did not cut back on electricity and don't intend to do so at this point.

"The Palestinians are in fact the ones who shut down power for several hours a day in a bid to create a crisis. At the moment, their fuel supply has not run out yet. If there is shortage of fuel oil at the power plants, they should ask themselves what happened to the supply they received," the military source said.

The story has been picked up by other Israeli media.

"The news coming out of Gaza depicts the Arab populace living in darkness and cold and blaming Israel for closing down major crossings through which fuel arrives to Gaza's power plants," INN TV reported. "Reporters even claim that the dead can no longer be buried properly because there are no shrouds, and that bodies are being wrapped in flags instead."

"Israeli sources say this kind of coverage is exactly what the Gaza leadership wants," the INN report said. "There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza," the network said, quoting Ynet's military source.

"In the past, there have already been situations in which the [electricity] transformers did not work. As for food and other supplies, the Palestinians have a stock that will last them for the next few days and beyond. This is an image of a crisis created by Hamas," INN quoted the source as saying

He also noted that the announcement of a crisis in Gaza came a bare 24 hours after Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced he was sealing off the crossings into Gaza. "There are hardly any trucks allowed into Gaza on Fridays and Saturdays anyhow," the source explained. "As for burial shrouds , these were never on the list of supplies Israel transferred into Gaza anyway."

On INN's Web site, Arutz Sheva, Israeli citizens, and others, thronged to the forum to take up the Israeli army claim.

"Life is tough in Gaza, move to Europe," one poster said.

Keren of Israel said, "Well,if they are creating this fake-as always- to make Israel look bad...
then Israel should take the chance and DO things the way it should and the way they really deserve. If anyway Israel will look bad, at least it should take a real advantage on this all, and CUT COMPLETELY their energy supplies until they flee to where they belong-Egypt!"

Dina of Jerusalem had this to say: "I'M SORRY IT'S FAKE. I say: MAKE 'EM SUFFER! Make them pay through the nose for their treachery and death and destruction they dare to perpetrate against us! PERMANENTLY stop ALL supplies to our enemies, and let the world scream and howl for two weeks! Dead and dying Arabs can't shoot missiles. NO ARABS = NO TERROR!"

It wasn't all Israelis either taking up the mantle. Lee of Manchester in the UK said, "Of course its fake - these 'guys' learned all they know from the reviled Nazi's! And this is the ONLY thing these arabs are good at - the only thing they are good at - is lying in the name of their twisted god of the moon to the 'infidel' or non - believer.... pure evil - but not quite clever enough for The people Israel! And i as a non Jewish supporter - thank God for that. WAKE UP WESTERN WORLD BEFORE ITS TOO LATE FOR US, BUT ISRAEL WILL STILL BE ISRAEL."

Daniel Ben David of San Francisco said, "I wish it were real! They say Gaza has become a prison. Where else should criminals be but in prison. What of the "humanitarian crisis" in Sderot? This goes unreported in Satan's media machine."

Med of the USA had this advice to Israel: "Just ignore the spin-doctors of the liberal media.
Re.: "Humanitarian crisis in Gaza" - Good!
That's the only way to get these hornets out of their nests and Israel reclaim its territory.

Re.: 'No shrouds in Gaza' -- Excellent!
All the cloth they get is used to make Israeli and US flags, and to burn them at their mass parades. They can now use pig-skin to wrap their dead and bury them. The infidels will gladly supply them with pig-skins."

A simple Yid, Yenem Eck Velt, said, "If Israel Is Going To Be Condemned Regardless.....Go For Broke.
Tsk,Tsk,Tsk. Happy martyrdom to all. Have fun with your 72 virgins. This is what you have been asking for, isn't it? Too bad all your cowardly whining is bs. However Israel will be blamed regardless of whether the charges are true or not, therefore Israel- keep up the pressure- the U.N., BBC, CBC, NBC, CBS, CNN, et al will shed a few crocodile tears initially, but nobody really give a damn about these fascist savages. Force them to surrender unconditionally. Their leaders are nothing but cowardly thugs. Israeli steadfast courage and determination is all that is required. The entire civilized world is praying (secretly) for your success. Patience and fortitude."

MC of Motul said, "the inhumanity of the israelis
Just as Sderot crying and complaining is fake."

Darrell of California, said, "Bomb Gaza and make it into a Parking Lot!"

Jonathan, Englandistan, had this to say: "Just read this - I don't believe it. "The UN organization in charge of Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, warned that the Israeli blockade would drastically affect hospitals, sewage treatment plants, water works and rocket manufacturing facilities.""

Kate of the UK said, "BBC quick to believe it
and propagate the lies to the world. Of couurse reporting from Jerusalem, not Gaza........hmmmm wonder why?"

Rob of Toronto said, "Gaza is Faking a Crisis
I say supply them light and heat by using bombs. Open crossings for them to go back to their homes of origins and supply them with used diapers for use a shrouds. There you have a solution for all. Oh forget the food, let them collect manna from allah and mohammed"

Maccabee of Jerusalem said, "Wake up, Hebrews!
Instead of covering those Gaza thugs with carpet bombing while they are marching staged for BBC, CNN and other Anti-Semitic Media crying Wolf for the safety of Arab mass-murderers, and not worrying at all about Jews from Israel living their lives under a 24/7 barrage of rockets."

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak meantime has authorized a one-time delivery of diesel fuel to Gaza for use at the power station powering the area. He has also authorized the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including medicines. He has ruled out however lifting the siege. "I care more about our quiet than their quiet," he siad.

A spokesman for Barak pointed out that since power was cut on Sunday, only six Qassam rockets were fired into Israel on Monday, against the daily average of 30. He said it was too early to say whether the siege was having the effect that was intended.

Reuters Fauxtography Alert: Spreading Hamas Propaganda With Fake Power Outage Photos

By Warner Todd Huston | January 26, 2008 - 13:53 ET

The Jerusalem Post caught another fauxtography scam out of the mideast this week. It appears that Hamas legislators have staged fake power outages to illustrate how oppressed they are for the benefit of journalists. The Journalists were treated to a photo op of the Hamas legislators sitting in their halls of power surrounded by burning candles in rooms with curtains drawn. The scene was set to show how they have had their power cut by the eeeevil Jews. Only problem is, midday sunlight can clearly be seen against the curtains. So, the candles were unnecessary. All they had to do was open the curtains and they would be able to see just fine. Obviously Reuters (and others) allowed Hamas to manipulate the facts. But that didn't seem to bother any of these so-called journalists who were quite happy to go along.

The Jerusalem Post says of the fauxtography incident:

On at least two occasions this week, Hamas staged scenes of darkness as part of its campaign to end the political and economic sanctions against the Gaza Strip, Palestinian journalists said Wednesday.

In the first case, journalists who were invited to cover the Hamas government meeting were surprised to see Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and his ministers sitting around a table with burning candles.

In the second case on Tuesday, journalists noticed that Hamas legislators who were meeting in Gaza City also sat in front of burning candles.

Oh, the humanities. But wait, Hamas was only pretending they needed candles...

But some of the journalists noticed that there was actually no need for the candles because both meetings were being held in daylight.

Like I said, Reuters went on ahead and published these photos as if there was nothing at all amiss.

And as NRO says of the incident:

And more fun with Big Media propagandists: During a soi-disant Israeli "power cut", Palestinians are forced to hold a parliamentary session by candlelight. Alas, even with the curtains drawn, the blazing sunlight keeps peeping through.

These photographs were taken by Mohammed Salem of Reuters and Hatem Moussa of the Associated Press. If neither of these organizations wish to comment, perhaps some of the ethics panjandrums at America's journalism schools would like to weigh in.

Here are the photos along with the misleading tag lines that Reuters tagged onto them. You can clearly see the sunlight behind the curtains:

'Starving' Palestinians and a humanitarian crisis?

Hamas and the media conveyed the distinct impression of a humanitarian crisis as Gaza's Palestinians 'starved'. Many media reported the closure of bakeries due to shortages of power and supplies. However, a Palestinian Authority official interviewed by the Jerusalem Post:

accused Hamas of ordering owners of bakeries to keep their businesses closed for the second day running to create a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. "Hamas is preventing people from buying bread," he said. "They want to deepen the crisis so as to serve their own interests."

The official said that contrary to Hamas's claims, there is enough fuel and flour to keep the bakeries in the Gaza Strip operating for another two months. "Hamas members have stolen most of the fuel in the Gaza Strip to fill their vehicles," he said.

In addition, hospitals were said to be dangerously low on fuel, putting patients' lives at risk. Was this also a result of Hamas actions? CAMERA quotes the independent Palestinian news agency Maan report of Dec 6, 2007:

The Palestinian health ministry of the Ramallah-based caretaker government said on Thursday that "Hamas militias" have looted the fuel stores destined for hospital vehicles in the Gaza Strip.

A statement released by the health ministry said that fuel from the European hospital in the Gaza Strip had been stolen by the director of the hospital drivers to supply the Hamas-affiliated Executive Force.

The statement explained that the fuel reserve had been supplied by the ministry to enable the hospital to continue working for as long as possible.

McClatchy News Jerusalem bureau chief Dion Nissenbaum even states:

Israel is pumping in some fuel for Gaza's only power plant and offering some diesel, but Palestinians are actually refusing to accept the small shipments of diesel to protest Israel's policies.

The Christian Science Monitor comments on Gazan 'hunger':

While starvation has not been a problem there – most of the strip's residents receive food aid from the UN – it's proved a powerful idea in the propaganda war over Gaza's fate.

It is a shame that atrocities are commited in Palestine against Palestinians by an occupying force which has the fully backing of the Western world. Why isn't the Security Council taking action, why aren't sanctions being put on this Zionist regime, where is the U.N, why isn't the Western media high ligthing this crisis, where are the peace mediators, why is the Zionist regime being supplied with weapons, where are all the aid agencies?

Analysis: Is Gaza blockade a legitimate tool of war?

The British foreign secretary issued a carefully crafted statement this Friday expressing "concern" at reports that Israel had reduced electricity supplies to Gaza and called on Israel to "reverse its decision" and to "fulfill its obligations under international law."

22. Separation of Hamas from the Gaza Population
As a member of the bar for 39 years, I am amused at the academic exercise of separating Hamas from the "Gaza Population." That is a fiction based on denial of reality. The Gaza population is at war with Israel. The Gaza population brought Hamas into power. Engaging in the fiction there are peaceful people in Gaza that are not aligned with Hamas strains all bounds of reason. They brought Hamas into power. It is the population of Gaza who is waging war on the border communities. There is no occupation in Gaza. Israel owes them nothing!

Hamas repeatedly lobs rockets into Israel. Now tell me, how is that helping the Palestinian people? It only gives Israel an excuse to go into Gaza kill several Palestinians, demolish some homes, and build some more separation walls and settlements. Israel is blessed with the presence of Hamas, this is their perfect excuse to flout international law and gain more and more Palestinian territory.

Hamas must stop it's violent acts against Israel. Those rockets only create sympathy for Israel among Americans, who see Israel as a democracy and Jews as hated people living among savages. This image must be turned around and the American people must be shown who is the real victim here - the Palestinian people whose position is being made worse by the day by Hamas.

The pictures clearly show them sitting with candles with the curtains pulled in broad daylight. Surely they could have pushed back the curtains to let in sunlight if they were not posing for propoganda?

Dude, this story was reported by several Israeli and Independent news agencies. I only chose this "blog" because it had a detailed description.

Anyhow, its an alternate point of view for you to consider.

Look dude, I don't support either side in this fight. What I do think though, is that Palestine and Israel are both equally vicious. Israel appears to be the villain here because they have more resources than the palestinians, so they get the "big bully" tag.

The fact is that if Palestine had a bigger army than Israel, they would have wiped it off the map. Atleast Israel pays attention to what the liberal media says about it. Palestine wouldn't give a damn.

Have you noticed, even Egypt has built a concrete wall to separate Palestine. I wonder why.

To those who are critiszing the Palestinians, I ask you what would you do if your land was taken away, what would you do if a foreign force is constanly taking away you territory, violating the soverignty of you nation by flying is jets over you skies, what would you do if you couldn't even trade with the outside world, what would you do if you got no food? I dont know about you guys if someone does that in my country I expect my people to respond by a declaration of war. The Jews have always lived in Palestine but when Israel was created all the porblems started. I ask you how would you like it if a guest came to your house and said the house was his you can only use the bathroom and you are restircted to that area. The Palestinians aren't allowed to dig for a drinking well while the Israelis built huge pools. If Israel gives the Palestinains their land back and respects their soverignity, I gaurantee you that their will be peace in the Middle East, well atleast in that area, all these militants groups will disspear.
