Israel To Pay Students For Pro-Israeli Social Media Propaganda

Israel has announced it will pay university students to circulate pro-Israeli information on social media networks, without having to identify themselves as working for the government.

The move was publicised in a statement from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office, the Associated Press reported. Students will receive scholarships to "engage international audiences online" and combat anti-Semitism and calls to boycott Israel, it was alleged.

In 2012, a Palestinian-run blog reported similar arrangements between the National Union of Israeli Students and the Israeli government. Students would be paid $2,000 to post pro-Israel messages online for five hours a week.

According to Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz, the most recent proposition is being spearheaded by Danny Seaman, who was slammed by the media for writing anti-Muslim messages on Facebook.

Students will be organised into units at each university, with a chief co-ordinator who receives a full scholarship, three desk co-ordinators for language, graphics and research who receive lesser scholarships and students termed “activists” who will receive a “minimal scholarship”, the Independent reported.

Trust the Associated Press to make this into something inoffensive. It's not "pro-Israeli information" what these students are being paid to post - it's state propaganda.

And as even Haaretz noted, what this Seaman lunatic posts is not only anti-Muslim trash, but also more broadly racist stuff.

Here's him blaming the holocaust of Japanese civilians, brought about by American nuclear terror, on Japan itself -- an Israeli ally:

I am sick of the Japanese, 'Human Rights' and 'Peace' groups the world over holding their annual self righteous commemorations for the Hiroshima and Nagasaki victims. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the consequence of Japanese aggression. You reap what you sow.

Instead, they should be commemorating the estimated 50 million Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Malay, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Indonesian, Burmese and other victims of Japanese imperial aggression and genocide. Not to mention nearly 120,000 Allied military casualties who fought to defeat the genocidal Japanese. These are who deserve to be and should be remembered this week.

To be fair to him, it's unsurprising an Israeli official would harbor such views -- Israel itself, after all, is so keen on slaughtering unarmed civilians in enemy countries; it's expected that it'd be supportive of its American useful idiots doing the same abroad.

The only countries resorting to this are those in actual need for a whitewash, mostly those implicated in heavy human rights abuses, such as Bahrain, China, Syria and, yes, the US.

. . . . .
What about Iran?we should have one of these organizations too...

I doubt an Iranian equivalent of these organizations would have an impact on Western discourse. They'd be immediately branded in the West as government apologists, and anything coming out of them would be seen as state propaganda. This is what has happened with PressTV, for example - they'd not reach more than a limited audience outside of Iran. This doesn't happen with Israeli propaganda groups because they are, well, Israeli propaganda groups.
